Remote start solenoid

What can you guys tell me about mounting a remote starter solenoid in the trunk along with my battery. I understand the principles but my question is regarding the solenoid itself. I purchased a solenoid for an 85 Ford. Then I read the enclosed pamphlet that said I shouldn't use this solenoid if the car is computer controlled. It said I need a solenoid with suppression diodes or damage to the computer will result. I asked Mark at Mad Electric and he said that the solenoid he supplies with his kit is for a 74 Ford. He said that I can add a diode to the one I have. Anybody know anything about this? What are you guys that have a computerized engines and his remote starter kit doing to protect your computer? Any advice would be appreciated.
