They sell rustoleum satin in quarts too for $8 a pop, cut it with acetone and shoot it with a gun. Hell, you could roll this stuff on and it would look good!

Its a shame we didn't get to see more done with the gto, imho it woulda made a much meaner lookin ride than venny....

WOW, just realized how old this thread was...**slaps fivehead**

Yeah, but I am working on bringing this look back with my car. Happen to see a picture of it when I bought my car and was searching for ideas for how to do it. Really liked the mean look to the satin black. Here is how mine is now....should be done by this weekend.

What paint did you shoot it with? Keep us posted. I have been tempted to do the rustoleum paint job on my pile for a short term solution.

Man these cheap black paint jobs look good. I"m not sure I'm sold on the satin (7777 ? ) vs flat black (7776) though. On my car the stuff I painted with satin just looks too glossy to me, and definitely shows up the underlying flaws more than the flat. Flat just seems meaner, "more matte".

What brand did you use? Rustoleum will look like a semi gloss for a while then dull a bit but stays black! Unlike Flat black which will chalk and turn gray pretty quick out in the sun.

I'm using Rustoleum. I have experimented with 3 different black paints from Rustoleum, and am happiest with the one they also used in the Hot Rod article a few months back to paint the camaro. THat is the flat black (pretty sure it is #7777). I don't have my car out in the sun much up here in Seattle LOL.

oh, and btw.. THIS is from a spraycan.. and it still looks this good..

you can keep the rusto paint looking good with a little forehand thinking and it will stay as nice as the first time.

I paid someone to paint my car with Dupont's Hot Rod Hues flat black paint. When I got it back fresh it looked great. However, the finish felt like 1000 grit sand paper. So, when I tried to clean it the dirt, lint and everything else stuck to the finish. So, I had it repainted with a base coat clear coat.

So, I think it is amazing what you have done with a rattle can.

      Fresh from painter:

      After trying to clean it:

What a waste of time and money................. Should have went with rattle can LOL...........

Here is how it looks now:

yea the hotrod hues has to be sprayed a certain way.. sounds like the paint wasnt mixed well and it dried while it was in the air being sprayed.

and with 22 years of experience with rattle canning i can make magic with that rusto flat black.. my Camaro and even the GTO still looks great!

and heres my crewmates Z i sprayed..

      Streetfighters baby..
