      Wilwood Safety wire

      Can I skip the safety wire and just use red loctitie????

      Suck it up, take the pain and do it.

      The pull should always be in the tightening direction like this.

      I wouldn't do that either. The pliers nick the wire. We were never allowed to use them working on aircraft in the Coast Guard.

      Just man up and twist it by hand.

      The only tools you need are a pair of dikes and duckbills.

      I use the safety wire pliers, they nick the wire slightly but I use the thicker .030" wire. If you do anything close to SCCA road racing, they want the caliper mounting bolts to be safety wired. Now when you think about it, how many cars are running around the world with non-safety wired caliper bolts? - A lot! But if you safety wired your bolts you probably looked at them long enough to tell they were tight and nothing around them was cracked. Plus they can easily see the wire and have some assurance they are not going to fall off the car. For SCCA solo II, they don't care, mainly they don't want your battery to come loose, or wheels fall off.

      for those of us with non wilwood installs and without their instructions, which bolts are being wired? it appears to be the 2 piece caliper, but are there any more?

      Wilwood rotors are two piece and bolt together. There is no way I would skip that step. The torque value is very low.

      It's the bolts that attach the rotor to the hat.

      I have an OLD Wilwood setup I bought used for a second gen. The rotor is actually bolted to the hub no adapter ring(in the new kits safety wire bolts adapter ring to hub and bolts rotor to adapter ring). They have no holes for safety wire, and I don't know what they used as far as Loctite but it's tight enough to strip out the allen head holes in them!

      GM made 2 piece rotors for the older A bodies and no safety wire-bet they had more miles on all of those than any race cars with safety wire!

      Loctite will melt out. There are to many possible harmonics in a rotor to NOT saftey wire. The saftey wire is is important we started including the plies and wire with out Total Car G Machine Brake Packages.

      And David is dead on, use the .030 wire.

      If you buy the Wilwood kit from Frank it comes with the safety wire and the safety wire pliers..
