      Engine Moutor Mount Blues...

Ok, I have a 69 Camaro with a SB 400. I can't keep the motor mounts together. I put in another one last sat. and the first time hard on the throttle it broke. Does anyone make strong rubber motor mounts? I guess I could go poly but then I need to get a new one for my transmission as well. I think I'm pushing 500hp and I have a 5 sp man transmission. What are all you guys running?

all the stock mounts at the local Car Quest auto parts are the rubber interlocking ones, you can't break them. They can't even get the older non-interlocking ones.

Look for the heavy duty replacement mounts that are interlocking.

That's what I had in it. It will move enough to allow the Fan to hit the shroud and cause the throttle linkage to travel about a 1/4" more than you are expecting when taking off from a dead start. Not good when there is a cop nearby, or you are making a turn, especially a left turn...

Wow. If everything is lined up right and and tight, and you're still breaking good new rubber mounts then you probably should upgrade to interlocking poly. I've also heard of guys replacing only one MM with a solid and keeping the trans and other MM rubber or poly. The idea is that 2 out of 3 mounts will move enough to keep vibration lower than all solid. You would replace the most stressed mount (driver's I think) with the solid. Again, I've only heard of this being done, but it seems like it would work.

wow, I ran those in an 800+ rwhp Camaro for quite a while, never broke them. Next step up is the urethane ones.
