      Chin Spoiler for First Gen

Anyone ever done a sheetmetal, brushed aluminum, or carbon fiber chin spoiler for a first gen camaro? I'm thinking about doing one and would love some input or pics.
      Thanks.

Dumb question, what the heck is a chin spoiler? Is it the spoiler under the lower valence on the front of the car?

Yes a chin spoiler is the front spoiler.

I think that would look great. I have a fabricated aluminum spoiler on the back of my car. I didn't want to do the same in the front for fear of damage--even a small rock could leave an annoying ding. Getting a jack under the front of the car could present a problem as well. If you proceed, consdier making it shorter than stock (further from the ground).

      Or make it adjustable/moveable?

If possible it would be a good idea to make the front spoiler adjsutable in some fashion to allow it or part of it to rotate up out of the way of a jack. A quick pin pull and a flap could rotate up out of the way maybe? Just thinking out loud, obviously the more intent one is on looks the less likely one would want to have more hinges/fasteners in view, so there is a bit of give and take here. I think I will either have to do something like this on the bottom of the front air dam on my 71 Camaro (not a stock spoiler), find a super short jack, or jack from the side just enough to get a short jack to fit under the front.

All good ideas. Steve, I actually thought of this after seeing the rear spoiler on your car. I'd love to fab one up from some aluminum with some air inlets up to a ram air box. There is a pic of something similar in the VB garage but I'm not smart enough to post the link.

I'm just curiouse why you'd want your air-inlets down there picking up the hottest air possible radiating off the pavement???

I do think it would look cool though, especially if it were shaped like the stock one, but brushed aluminum.

I've seen a 69 Camaro done with flairs that were made of metal. The front flairs blended into the front spoiler, very cool. That was in 1972. I've got pics of it from the first car mag I ever bought.

I didn't want to talk about this yet, but things beyond my control have really pushed up the announcement date:

ATS, John McBride, Chicane, and with some direction from Steevo, are developing a street/track body kit for 67-69 Camaros. The whole product line is to be dubbed the G/28 line (this was under development before Hunkins 2nd gen was named with the same title) and has some key design features that a few of you have already mentioned in this thread. The goal is to have a less agressive designed lower valnce panel than the 50/50 version, and then have a removeable chin spoiler/air dam that fastens on for race day. It can be stored in the trunk when not in use, and attach in under 5 minutes. Other features include driving lamps and optional brake ducts.

This would be a great way to set the new PT trend of making the car functional on the street as well as the track. You wouldn't be destroying the front spoiler over speed bumps and dips in the road, but when it is needed on the track it fastens right on.

I'd release a few McBride sketches, but the internet is the king of rip off artists, so they will remain under wraps until they are in clay, and being produced. You guys will love the design, I know it for a fact.

Too bad! I need to find a spoiler/splitter that actually works.

Rod - What about the front spoiler on your 1968? Are they available for sale commercially?

I have the same one. They were made by Spectre but were discontinued a while back.

My stock sized front spoiler is just not cutting it at high speeds. I desperately need to stop the massive quantities of air getting under the car. The aero treatments in the rendering above are pretty close to what I was envisioning in my head after reading through Ron Sutton's aerodynamics thread. I would love to find something similar.

Sure wish they had not discontinued their line of front spoilers. They made one for my car that I really wanted.

It was a good looking spoiler, but from what I've heard took a lot to get it to fit decently. If someone were to make an improved version of it, I'd be interested.
