17" Trans Am Snowflake Wheels from Year One

These are the 17x9" Snowflakes that I ordered from Year One for my 77 Y81 Special Edition Trans Am.

I originally ordered them in natural (i.e. no paint) because I thought/think the Year One gold paint scheme didn't use enough gold, so instead I had them painted gold by the resto shop (Transformation Restorations).

"Natural" 17x9" Snowflake compared to factory 15x8 Snowflake"

      Custom gold painted 17x9"

Year One's gold scheme on 18x9" wheel vs my 17" custom gold on 17x9"

Backspacing is 5" all around. Will be running 285/40 out back and 275/40 up front.

I like your gold. I think the center cap ruins them. A nice modern flat cap gives them a lot of depth.

OK now I am officially jealous. They look fantastic and I can't wait to get a set on my 79. One day I will have my own to polish and drool on. Thanks for the pics Jon

Can't use flat caps as the hub sticks through the hole on the front. Unless you're talking about the smooth center caps found on the 79-81 cars. Those hex center caps are the 77-78 style. I think I have that right. I know my 79 has the smooth ones.

Actually you've got it just backwards... the plastic hex caps were introduced on the 79 10th Anniversary T/A and were then used in 80 & 81. Before that it was the smooth steel caps from 77-79 (non 10th cars). The smooth steel ones are no longer available from GM and nobody repops them.

As for the center caps, I actually prefer them, they tie the wheels back to their predecessors perfectly IMO. But if I was putting these wheels on anything but a T/A I'd definitely want something different. But on a T/A I think they're perfect. Each to his own I guess....

Figures I'd get it backwards. I've been screwing simple things up for weeks now. Doesn't matter though, they look badass.

My car is in the middle of a full resto right now, so it may be a few months before it gets to the point where mounting them is necessary... or even possible... but don't worry... I'll be sure to post pics when the time comes!
