      Viper Studebaker

Newly started 1953 Studebaker. We dipped the body and removed all the floors and inner fenders. We replaced the stock frame for a new Art Morrison frame. I was lucky to find a Brand New Viper ACR-X track day engine left over from the ACR-X race program. Hand built and broken in on the Dyno at Dodge. The engine sheet reads 645 HP and 605 Tq and come ready to drop in with starter and dual disc clutch. Trans is a TR6060 Viper 6 speed. Huge amount of body change are taking place. We chopped the top about 4 inches and the roof is moved forward about 4 inches but we are still massaging it. The wheels and tires are just shop rollers and are not what we are going to use. We are looking into putting the radiator in the truck area and running stainless thin wall pipe with a rear water pump to assist the front water pump on the engine. We are going to do a chrome moly full cage from the front to back with the body off and then we can drop the body on and off as needed. Floors will be bolt in after the body is in place. Here is some artist pictures that we are following.Name: 2015-GWA-Tuning-Studebaker-Veinte-Victorias-01.jpg

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is looking forward to another non-Big-3 build on this forum. They're too few and far between, for me!

I had a new LS3 installed and then I decided to go with the Viper V10. I just saw too many LS3's around and this made a lot more power.

The top photo is before we removed 3.5 inches from the A pillar. We are going take another inch out. We already cit the roof back near the back glass and slide it forward to match the A pillar angle. The drip rails are going as are the wipers. We also remove about 3 inches of the cowl.Name: 2019-09-17 17.42.44.jpg

This smells a lot like the P1800 build on here! Taking an already sexy car, refining it and taking it to a new level. Looking forward to seeing this move forward!

We have been working on getting the right angle for the chop. Top have been moved forward 4", 3.5" drop in the front which levels the top and we dropped the bottom of the front window down 4 inches. We also are removing the drip rails. The whole purpose was to lower the upper sweep of the front of the roof line that the stock car has. I will post some before and after ones. We are trying to make it look like it wasn't chopped but to enhance the look of speed.Name: thumbnail_imagejpeg_0003.jpg

That looks really good. Could you post a side shot picture? Also, did you sink the windshield into the cowl?

Dipping the body leaves some interesting patina behind.

Yes the dipping pattern is very odd in areas. We have done a lot on the chop and I will post some pictures this week.

Yes we took about 3 inch out of the cowl and lowered the window.

Well it has been awhile and projects change.... So after some reflection I decided that due to the higher HP of the Viper ACR-X engine over the LS3 engine in the Art Morrison Chassis, I decided that the frame wasn't up to the task of the extra HP and Tq. Not enough brakes too. So I came up with a C5/C6 Corvette and we stripped it down to just the frame rails, moved the front 7" forward and rear suspension 7" rearward to match the Studebakers' 114" wheel base. I want to go with full independent suspensions and also have an unlimited choice of upgrades like big brakes, suspension parts, and wheels. The frame fits the body like it was made for it, very happy with it. I found a new Viper rear diff, so the drivel train is now all Viper. We are going with ( we Think) 19x13 rear wheels and 18x11 front wheels. I also bought a complete Ride Tech suspension kit with hollow tube sway bars and remote gas cylinders. The new frame has no limits on tire size unlike the Art Morrison chassis. The present wheels and tires are just the old C5/C6 as shop rollers.
