Just a small update. I spent that last few times at the shop working on the exhaust. I've fully welded the mid pipes and started welding the tail pipes and building rubber hangers so everything can move around a little bit. I think some of the exhaust tweaked during welding on the passenger side so I need to rework the tail pipe some. That's pretty normal in my experience of welding exhaust. Even if you take your time and jump around a lot your still just trying to minimize warping. Also, not sure anyone saw in the for sale section but I sold the Vintage Air front runner that was on this car. I just stuck out too far for this project so I decided to switch to a Corvette setup. Picked all that up today so going to throw those on and also start looking at some AC mounting. Would love to keep it down low for looks mostly.

Ha! Still waiting on the insurance money from the Cutlass to fix it. I like how Paul smashes the car and then I'm having to hunt down the parts! Haha. Nobody can appreciate the stuff I bought because they aren't having to hunt for it. That stuff is harder to find than Studebaker parts.

Not much of an update... I grabbed a pair of 96 Firebird seats to use in the car. These are some of my most favorite seats. I know, not full on race but I like them. So here they are. At least now I was able to make engine noises! Oh yeah and they are super light manual only version. Double bonus!

I finished up with the tail pipes and even though I do have some more boost pipe work to do I'm kind of tired of working on tubing for the moment. So, I decided to move some attention to the fuel tank and trunk area. We've had this left over 69 Camaro fuel tank for a while. It was originally built by Rock Valley and is fairly well built. I've decided to start with it just because it's something tangible. I plant to cut off the sides and then cap them to fit the frame. Trying to keep it around 16 total gallons. The upper tank mounts are 70 Camaro pieces we bought here on the forum.

Man I should call you to build the exhaust for my Chevelle! This car is going to be epic when it's done, hopefully I'll get to see it at one of the Goodguys shows in Scottsdale soon!

haha! Yeah exhaust work is not fun. And this darn car has tons of it. I'd love to have this car at the show. One day it will be done. Just don't know when that day will be!

      Hi Phillip:

My son alerted me to your build site. Looked at every post since start last night. Just now signed up as a member. Great plan and super craftmanship. I too wanted to do something different. I considered buying the car you now have several years ago. Don't know if you will be inspired or ticked to know that I am completing something very, very similar. My 1966 only 25 miles so far, now debugging and correcting issues. Would like to contact you direct & share but don't know how to proceed.

Okay spent a bunch more time trimming on the fuel tank. I think I'm ready to break out the plasma and start cutting out the new pieces to weld it back together!

The darn SS straps that I have are too short so I need to make some different ones. Baffles me on how they would be too short but that sounds about right anymore!

I worked on the fuel tank some more last night. First I took measurements for the length of hoses I need for the corner pick-ups from vaporworx. After that I finalized and finished fabricating the stainless steel straps. I started with some longer A-Body ones and trimmed and recreated the one end but 2" shorter. Once they were in there I noticed that the tank was pulled up about 5/8" closer to the body. So, I did have to rework a little bit of my side templates to create a little bit more space between the frame. Other than that it wasn't too big of a headache. Maybe more of a bullet dodged?

So, I had originally planned to use my plasma cutter to trim out the new panels but man I didn't realize how under powered our plasma was against this 14g 304SS. So, I decided to throw a new blade into the band saw and just trim it out that way knowing that my new bi-metal blade probably wouldn't last long. However, it trimmed right through without an issue. We'll see how long it lasts though. Here is where I left off, with 1 side mocked up.

On a side note I was disappointed to see that Rock Valley doesn't purge or use Solar Flux in their tank fabrication. I'm not sure if Ricks purges their tanks or not.
