      Hey Phillip,

I glad to see you're back on your project! That is some awesome fab work and welds!

BTW, it looks like you may have your steering angles taken care of but just in case it ends up giving you problems with the angles, don't forget about the optional "steer clear" product that I am using on my project. As you can see, they come in all different lengths and it may get the shaft away from the headers and eliminate all of the bad angles...

If needed, here's a link to their website:

That front suspension is going to be REALLY nice! I am in the process of rebuilding my design as well to beef up the front spindles/hubs. They should be ready in about a month. Keep up the great work!

Thanks guys! Sometimes it's hard to stay focused, but comments like that definitely help. I know the updates have been scarce lately but hopefully they'll come more consistently now. This week I did some reworking on our Oldsmobile to get ready for the Return to the Coast.

Those are cool Ray but WOW.. Pricey!

I'll keep an eye out for the changes that you make. At times I was questioning my decision to start from scratch but in the end I think it's going to be really awesome.

Took some time today at the shop and we got the Studebaker pulled off the chassis jig. Oh man what a great feeling this is to see it on the ground.

I will try and get some more detail pictures uploaded soon.

We've spent some more time on the car as of late.. sorry the updates are coming slowely but that's how it goes sometimes huh.. We got the front downbars tacked in along with the upper and lower coilover mounts. For good measure we threw on a Vette accessory drive to check the fit.

I'll join the chorus, loving the unusual body style lowered right and built tough. Having studied several upright designs and built my own as well I really like the straightforward and elegant design of those uprights.

Thanks Preston, I appreciate the kudos. One thing that I've been brainstorming on but haven't come up with yet is a good way to safety wire the upper ball joint bolt. Becuase the bolt turns with the spindle I've been stumped but hoping someone out there has a good idea. Thanks!

Could some sort of castle nut with a cotter pin work?

Edit: Is that the bolt head on top of the uca or is the nut on top? I am having a hard time seeing it.

      Thanks,
      Jon

I think the he's talking about the main UBJ, the bolt threads directly into the UBJ mount which looks to be steel ? You can either weld a tiny bracket onto the UBJ mount or probably better idea drill and thread bolt or screw and attach your safety wire there. Even though its just a another screw that could come undone you can loc tite a small bolt better than a big one. Or you could use a stud there and drill the end for safety wire to keep the nut from coming off. Of course the stud could still in theory back out but that is unusual and you can loc-tite the crap out of the stud more so than a bolt that you might want to take on and off a few times.

I think he was talking about the UBJ too, I just couldn't tell for sure if it was a bolt or a stud. I am going to try Nord-lock locking washers on my car instead of safety wire, it's supposed to be the ultimate locking washer. After everything settles, the bolt or nut does not back off.

      http://www.nord-lock.com/products/mu...wedge-locking/

I also seen some testing with the original Nord-lock vs. all the other types of locking washers and adhesives. The Nord-locks seem to work well.

Edit: video link of vibration testing different lock washers - done by Nord-lock:

      Thanks,
      Jon
