I agree with you on the wheels... I love these wheels on the car.

I have had weldcraft do a few sets of wheels for me and I have never had an issue with them.

I look forward to seeing it in person at some point.. are you still using the LS6 I put together for you in what seems like 10 years ago? LOl
Yeah man, that'd be awesome. Once all this snow melts, come on by! That's good to hear that you've used Weldcraft also. They get great reviews, but I'm glad to know someone locally that has used them also. And yes, it's the same LS6 you put together for me. It sat around for so long we decided to blow it all back apart and give everything a solid cleaning before putting it together. Good times!

      Fitting the wheels again

Whew man, I'm tragically bad at keeping this thing up to date... and this build is tragically slow! BUT, we're moving now, so I'll catch this up.

After having the wheels cut down, I popped them back on the car and they fit!

      Finished the engine

As has been eluded to elsewhere in the thread, the short block was built and then sat for ages. So, I decided to just start all over and had the short block pulled apart and thoroughly cleaned and beefed up a few things along the way just to be extra safe. Afterwards, the motor went back together and is now totally complete.

      On to the body work!

Once the motor was done the guys started cranking on the body work!

All body panels on and the thick primer sprayed on

That's the first time all the body panels have been on the car and one color since 1996! Exciting stuff!

While we were at it, they also cut the hole in the floor for the stick to come through

      Setting ride height

      Now the fun part!

When the guys put the suspension under it, they just put everything in without looking at the height of anything... just to get it under there basically. Now that everything else is done, I wanted to put the motor and trans in the car and get some weight in it to see how it looked. It was WAY too high, so we started working on the ride height.

We initially had some issues getting it as low as we wanted because spanner nut just couldn't turn anymore without hitting stuff. What the guys ended up doing was trimming some metal off the bottom side of the frame where the old spring bucket was, and this allow the car to come on down another 1.25 inches. It's just about perfect now!

Now, a couple of problems we need to figure out. One is with the car that low, we've got some rubbing issues. We're going to align the front end and get the camber and caster set and see where all we've got problems officially. Then we may need to do some cutting / massaging. Second problem is the lowest part on the car is the oil pan! Not cool. It sits about 2.5 inches off the ground, and the frame is almost a full inch higher than that. We're going to see if we can't raise the engine and trans up some (we've got plenty of room) to see if we can't narrow that gap a bit. I'd prefer a speed bump not scrub my oil pan if at all possible.

We're also going to start playing around with some colors as well. Can't wait!

      Seats, stance, and paint

Well this is awesome, my seats came in this week! Super excited to get these in and finally sit in the car!

Also, since the last post we've screwed around with the ride height a little more. Previously the oil pan was sitting 2.5 inches off the ground, and that just made me nervous, AND we were having lots of bumping and scrubbing issues with the tires that was going to cost a lot to remedy. The simple fix... raise the car back up a half inch. I'm still pleased with the way it looks and everything clears way better now. I think we'll still end up making a skid plate to go under the car, just to help protect the oil pan... which might be overkill, but it would make me feel a LOT better.

Now to the super awesome part... the paint. I've been thinking of Chevrolet's Stealth Gray / Blue Granite, but that color is so weird, I'm having second thoughts. Both those colors are the same paint code, but I swear you'll see some cars / trucks that look more green and some that look more blue... and what we sprayed out on our test panel looks more green to my eyes than blue, and I want blue.

      Name: IMG_20160708_074759.jpg

I do like the color, but I want to love it... so we're going to try a few other colors and see if we can't get a little closer to what I've got in my head. We're also toying with the idea of doing the pin stripe that surrounds the main stripe in red. Good times!

Dan the car looks great, really coming along.
There is a blue 69 sitting my garage right now with an LS in it if you wanted to come by and look a it.
I would say it is very close to what you are trying to do.

      It's painted!

Whew man, I've been bad about updating this. A lot has happened since I last posted though, which is always good! I finally chose a paint color. After going round and round in my mind about the Chevy color, I decided on Mazda's Reflex Blue. The Chevy color always seemed to look green to me, not matter what light it was in, so I just went another route.

      All the panels painted

      Stripes!

All the panels were put on the body ultimately so we could make sure everything was lined up before adding the stripes. Here's the hood all scuffed back up

Aaaand the stripes. I went with a dark red pin stripe just for something different. At the time I thought of this, it wasn't too common... but now it's everywhere. Oh well, I still like it!

      Interior and engine bay painted

Last but not least, we got the inside all painted black and the engine bay as well. Now, time to put it all back together!

The plan now is to get all the remaining parts so that we've got everything all in one place, and my guy can just go to town assembling it all. So far, of the missing pieces I've ordered the fuel tank, pump, filter, lines, etc. I've also ordered the Vintage Air AC stuff (whew MAN that stuff is expensive). The list isn't all that long... but it's all adding up $$$ pretty quickly. My goal is to have the car done in April. We'll see!

Oh yeah! I guess you probably noticed that we also smoothed the firewall with DSE's kit since I last updated as well. I've also now managed to fix all the images in earlier posts, so it should be all showing correctly again. Now... back to spending money!

Thanks man! Yeah, it's a little frustrating seeing people build like 7 cars in the time its taken me to build 1, but that's how it goes! The hood is a two inch cowl from Summit Racing (here's a link to it), my builder was pleased with the quality of it, and the price was pretty fair I thought. I had always thought I'd go with a fiberglass one because I've always liked the sort of wedge shape of the Harwood cowls, but my builder talked me into getting a steal hood so it would hopefully fit better, and I have to say, I like it a lot too!

Thanks Steve! I think I'm going to go pretty minimalist on the interior, but we'll see. My goal was for the car to look somewhat stock until you start poking around, and then you start noticing all the upgrades. The stance being the one obvious change.
