Another electric water pump question
I am thinking about running an electric water pump on my SBC. It is going to be used on a street car.
I am looking for peoples experiences with electric pumps, and the different brands and models.
I am not looking for "Don't use and electric pump!" unless you have actually had a bad experience with them.
Please explain your setup (how long you've been running it, how it's controlled, volume, etc.)

Meziere Electric pumps
I have been running a Meziere remote mount 55 GPM electric pump on my daily driver since last April. ('73 Porsche 914 w/350 Chevy Conversion & A/C) I drove the car all summer long here in Phoenix and we had some 117 degree days. I know of at least 5 other local guys running the same exact pump with Zero problems.

Tim,
I was wanting to see how your remote Meziere setup was plumbed on your ride, do you have any pictures? I have a 68 Chevelle that I'll be using a Meziere remote pump on and was curious after reading this thread. Just PM me if it's easier.

Is there any specific reason why you want to use the remote mount pump? It would be much cheaper & easier to use their engine mounted 55 GPM pump. This is a picture that I found on the web. I don't have any photos of the pump installed on my car.

Thanks for the reply and don't worry about the pictures if you don't have any. As for running the remote setup yes it's more expense but I like the different design plus it'll clean up the front of the engine and make the Jesel belt drive easier to adjust.

11-19-2005 #8Tim, that's a pretty nice set-up I'd say. Do you have any idea how many hours the pump is rated at for reliability? I'm guessing this is a race only pump and not intended for the street but I'm curious anyway. -Jabin

Jabin, the remote Meziere 55 gallon pump can be used in either application (street or drag racing). I'm not sure how many hours of life they have in them (I know you asked Tim not me) , but they are equal to the block mounted design just have different housings. I hope this helps.

The pumps have a average life expectancy of about 40,000 miles according to Mike @ Meziere Enterprises.
12-05-2005 #12Hmmm...an electric water pump with a pretty good service life behind it freeing up HP and it can also be controlled with a progressive controller too...got me thinking here. I may have to experiment with this one. -Jabin

Still curious if the remote pump adds to the life of the pump? Trying to figure out if the engine mounted pump is affected by engine heat. Obviously, both will work, but is durability considered about equal?
02-15-2007 #14Believe it or not, i run the "Proform" electric waterpump on my twin turbo 400" motor.....this thing cruises at around 165-170* in the city....i've put over 1500KM on her last season without a hickup of the cooling system. Im using an aluminum rad 31x16 (s10 style) and a Taurus fan wired on the 1st speed, slowerer setting.
No problems here & its going on season 2 this year in the new car.

If you need cabin heat, make sure you plan for it. Most electric pumps dont have provisions for it.

I ran a Meziere on my last car....a 1994 Formula LT1 w/ Procharger. Was running around 525 RWHP and the pump would keep the car running well under 200 degrees. Only problem I ever had with the pump was when I somehow blew the fuse in the main power line going to the solenoid. Did not know it happended and seriously overheated the engine. Did not cause any damage at the time as far as I know....sold the car a couple years later and it was still running strong. But the lack of power to the pump was a real problem!

Stewart makes an in-line "booster" electric water pump, rated at 300 gph.
