4 wheel disc brake conversion ?'s

my 68 camaro doesnt have front disc which really bothers me. i figured since im fixing to do a hotchkis suspension i would like to do a 4 wheel disc brake conversion. i was wondering if anybody had any info on spacific brands and kits. any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Wilwood and Baer are some popular kits that we use on this site. You could also build your brakes cheaper with other GM brakes. On the old site there is a cheap big brakes forum dedicated to building well um...well cheap big brakes. I am sure and hope some that have done this will chime in.

I personally went with the baer system for my 68. I decided to go with 13s on front drilled/ slotted and 12s on rear drilled /slotted. havent had a chance to test them out yet but they are installed. Im having other work done by DSE so they installed mine while doing the other mods...I have heard these are fairly easy to do yourself....

Keep in mind, the Wilwoods that Baz is talking about(I think) are 6 piston front calipers and 4 piston rears. Normal cost is about $1600 for front kit and $800 for the rear? Maybe cheaper, I'm not sure.

I bought mine brand new last year and they were about 2200.00 for front and rear set up plus tax.......they come with pretty much everything you need to bolt right up. they might be a little cheaper now...like I said...I bought them about a year ago and just got them on this month (car was in and out of shop with bodywork, paint etc. so it was pointless to put them on until everything else was done)...LOL...

Uh not right in front of me Cliff. I will look them up though. The front is just the kit that Wilwood offers for the first gens. You should be able to find it on there web site. My rears are for a 9" so if you have a Chevy rear end it would not help you.

It's the front kit I'm interested in. On their webside are different kits: Dynalite big brake, dynalite pro series,super lite dics brakes. I like to know what most people use and if they are satisfied with them. On one car I've got Baer on all 4 corners, I like to do some different on the other...

A thread from a while ago but the Wilwood SL6 from above is advertised as a 'race only, no street' brake kit. Any of you guys had problems or experiences from street use?

Many people have put these "race only" brakes on the cars without any issues. andrewb has these calipers on his GTO and had no issues that I know of. It is a
liability issue. Wilwood does not want to get sued and all.

If you own a first gen Camaro with drum brakes on all corners, then you can't miss the December 2004 issue of Car Craft. Page 72, they detail a complete install, front and rear Wilwood disc brake conversion. They use their DynaLite system for this particular install, and it's being put on a 67 Camaro. They also install a Wilwood proportioning valve and aluminum master cylinder. Check it out! Very nice writeup and color pictures too.
