engine and trans
Is it necessary to drain the oil and trans fluid when pulling an engine and trans?

Its not nessary but often make a mess if you don't. Likely loose the transmission fluid out the tailshaft if you don't plug it

oil would be fine to leave in but you will definitely lose fluid from the tail shaft. If you can keep the engine and trans pretty level you can usually get by with just a sandwich bag and some zip ties around the tail shaft to avoid a huge mess
