Car is on 18’s
285/40/18 I’m pretty sure is the target size

P zero?
sport cup 2
nitto 555?

street use. Occasional drag strip.
No track or course time.
Straight line. No rain.
And somthing that should last
a couple seasons. Nothing that dies
in 1000km...

recommendations please.

Toyo R888 was the only tire I have ever used that hooked up with that much power. I used them on a track occasionally, and sold the car with good rubber still on them. I personally dislike Nitto 555s, but it has been a few years since I experienced them.

I am considering putting Sport cup 2s on my 550 hp car, would love to hear impressions from these smart folks.

Harnessing 700hp with a 285 street tire might be more than a little optimistic. Just a suggestion but I would look at the Nitto NT05's.

LOL ... 700 on a 285, not a chance, just cross your fingers and pray !!
I had 900 using 325's and would light up the tires in 4th doing 60mph

I have pretty good luck with the current top 200TW brands and my 800+WHP car. Rival S and Bridgestone RE71R. They are super soft compounds and besides slicks/DR's and the R888 probably the best options for a 18 inch high HP tire. Of course you can employ some power management and right foot management to help with traction limited situations, but as far as tire selection go with the above mentioned imo.

I was about to recommend those. I got 3 years out of my last set. That includes three trips to LSFest with drag racing, although they showed chords at the last LSfest. They were toast. If you are careful, you should easily get 10K miles out of them. Tire wear is directly proportional to your right foot!

I know it's a bit of an old thread, but I'm new here. I've got 285/40 on 18x10s on my Mach 1 (dyno'd at 673 HP and 748 ft.-lbs.) and I can tell you that anything less than drag radials is going to be fun for sure, but futile....My regular Nitto 555s light up at anything under 60 mph with my 3.90 gears. The Mickey T's are the best set of drag radials out there, they've been much better than the old BFGs and Nitto 555Rs I've ran before.

My CTSV is 713 whp and I am currently running PSS' ,and have run Sport Cup 2 also. Traction is futile. Period. You can get a 305 on a 9.5 inch rim, just get some DR's. Mickey T. is your friend. I am running a R888 345/18 on the Chevelle with a set of Mickey T's on a spare set of rims for when it counts.
