Cast Wheel Showdown

When trying to find 18x10 wheels for my Daily Driver, there aren't many options for a Forged Wheel that fit my budget AND look appealing to me.
So I hope some of you can give me guidance on what brand of Cast Wheels I should get.

With a budget of $250 per wheel, my options are limited to:

American Racing
XXR
Konig

What car? What rim style from each manufacturer? What back spacing options do each offer for which ever rim style?

We need more info on backspacing. There’s plenty of Chinese manufactures that make cast wheels just depends what style and backpacking your looking for

It’s for my 1970 Buick Skylark. Looking to run 18x10 squared. Backspacing on these rims is more than I need, which is ok because I can just add spacers. Final backspacing should measure anywhere between 5.5 and 5.75 inches. I plan on upgrading to discs which can push the wheel outwards, so the greater the backspace, the better. I’ll be able to adjust it with spacers after.

As for rim design from each company,

XXR 521
American Racing Torq Thrust VN215

Bolt pattern 5x120 or 5x120.65 (any is fine)
Any hub bore is fine, I can use hubcentric rings to adapt the difference.

American's VN215 is available in an 18x10 w/5.75" backspacing (+6 offset) Those numbers should be fine, on the rear. Don't think they will work on the front, though, and especially not with spacers.

If you just have to run the same size wheel & tire, at all four corners, I would go with 18x9.5's w/5.75" backspace (+12 offset) and 275/35/18 BFG Rivals. Yes, that route will cost more money but they will fit your car w/o mods.

I have use the XXR brand for several years without issues and at many venues, for an entry brand the XXR are well built then move up to the next level brand like US mags as you know the skys the limit, but cast wheels are pretty good

here is a set on NCM these are 18x9.5 all four with 275 tires






and the newest set and these are 18.10.5 all four with 315 tires

For Chinese manufacturers most use mm offsets. You can use this tool to convert from inches to mm: https://tiresize.com/wheel-offset-calculator/ (click on the offset converter tab)

18x9.5 is probably a more widely available size than 18x10 and that .5 inch won’t change much as far as how wide you can go. Try eBay and just type in 18x9.5 wheel then on the side there is different offsets you can pick to narrow down your choices.

Also if you don’t like the finish say for example wheels you like are only available in blue and are heavily discounted you can take them to any powdercoater and they usually charge $75 to sandblast and powdercoat per wheel. That’s how I found my rims they were the only 19x12 with my backspacing but they were GOLD for $185! I found them on aspiremotoring.com they have a lot of wheels for great prices

After your comment I had to give myself a reality check to realize that there are much more wheels available in 9.5 than 10.0
And youre right, its probably a really negligible difference in that .5 inches

Since those wheels are available in 5x120 bolt circles, instead of 120.65, what hubcentric spacers are you using, Joe? Those wheels are certainly priced right.

Practically everyone measures offsets in millimeters.

Have you looked at TSW wheels? They have been around forever and are right at your budget. Im not too sure about their sizing, but they do have some nice designs.

Yoooo, I just found those like last night! Crazy coincidence lol. But yes, they fit my budget and they have some nice styles. They are my first choice as of now.

Doing some more research, everyone on import forums bashes and hates on cast wheels cause they are weak and crack, etc. Come to find out that OEM wheels on 99% of today’s cars are cast, and you can have them for years before they attain any significant damage that requires new wheels.

But thank you for mentioning TSW, I will most likely go with them
