      valve stems

Stupid question of the day. I would assume the preference is metal stems. What's everyone using? I want black. Standard valve stems are fine, no special needs

Standard rubber valve stems are safe to about 60psi. You don't really need a screw in type stem until you get into tire pressures above that. Both my pickup and trailer tires run at 80psi and will potentially blow out rubber stems at that pressure and so require metal screw in stems. If you're happy with black stems they are cheaper just use the shortest stem you can get by with keeping the pressure requirements in mind. Metal screw in stems are recommended for high performance and road course applications where the wheel/tire combo and potentially see high temperatures and just for an additional margin of safety.

Here's a good article on TireRack about valve stems.
