      4l80e smal question help required please

      Hi gents im almost finished my 4l80 build and ive come to the last part putting the tail housing on and i noticed a small crack in it see pictures in my opinion the crack shouldnt affect the strenght of the unit i put a slit in the crack to relieve it just incase am i right in doint this or should i replace the housing any input would be greatName:  20180422_160532.jpg

      I would just replace it. You don't have to worry about stop drilling the end of the crack to relieve it. I don't think it has anything to do with the integrity of the piece but my OCD is screaming at me about it. LOL Being an A&P mechanic, I just hate seeing cracks in metal. I wonder if the mounting nut/bolt was overtorqued causing the crack.

      Thanks im an ex aircraft engineer myself and its annoying my ocd to but relieved the crack and seeing it only affects the outside of the bolt hole to the edge of the case i cant see it being a major concern the big issue for me here is im in Australia and we never got 4l80s here soo all my parts take minium 3 weeks from the usa i would like to replace but time waiting for parts etc im going to have to use it for the time being just want to calculate my risk

      Why not put a weld bead on the outside edge?

      Just worried being cast aluminium it might fatigue it more
