      76 C-10 shop truck Project..

Hello All. For some reason I thought I needed another project.. I swear this one will be an easy one.. I found a pretty clean 76 C10 on Craigslist. Original paint, unmolested virgin. A 350 2bbl, Th400, 12 bolt truck. A little rough around the edges, but perfect for what I wanted to do with it. Went down and picked it up.. It had a bad trans when I got it..

And then it starts snow balling from there.. A pallet of Holley and Hooker parts show up.. Grabbed a 6.0ls off the shelf and away we go. Bonehead the mutt has to supervise everything.. He thinks he knows more than me.. He is making sure I pin the crank correctly as he knows it will end up with a blower on eventually.. No better time than the present..

Holley helped us out on this Project.. We got the engine mounts, trans crossmember, Hooker Cast iron manifolds, and their full exhaust kit. We used Arp bolts where needed.. And Bonehead making sure it was being done correctly.

We used a B&M 4l65e transmission and the Hooker trans crossmember. Being in the industry, when people claim "bolt in" I am a little skeptical as nothing ever does.. I have to say the engine and trans fell in and bolted right up.. Had to drill a couple of holes for the trans crossmember, but I was impressed with the fit..

For the Fuel system, I ordered a new replacement tank for an 87 c10 with efi and the matching pick up.. Pretty bad the pick up cost more than the tank. I installed a 400 lph pump just to be on the safe side. I welded #6 fittings to the pick up and return fittings to make plumbing easier. Nice new tank with no crap in it.. fuel system done.

I get them from XRP. They are just steel #6 weld on ends.. I drill them out to make them slip over the tube to make it easier to weld.

An important thing I have found with Injected engines.. They don't like to sit with todays gas in them.. On more than one occasion I have had issues trying to start a engine after a swap. The injectors get plugged up from sitting. Here is the set out of this engine on the flow bench before and after cleaning them. I have had in the past where all 8 won't flow. Also tapping where one of the smog ports are for a plug.

I opted for the new Dakota Digital HDX gauge cluster. I have been using their Vhx line for a while and am very impressed with the HDX.. Very cool features it has. Change the lighting and the pointer color to what ever you want. And you can have it one color during the day and when you turn the lights on, you can have it a different color combo..

For suspension we decided to keep it somewhat tame. It had to come down some for the proper stance, but I didn't want it on the ground.. It is supposed to be a usable shop truck. Being a ridetech dealer for years and happy with their product, I went with one of there new Street Grip kits. As usual with ridetech, I was not let down on their quality of product or ride. Front drop spindles, Lowering springs, bigger sway bar, Adjustable shocks, and their Delrin bushings for the front. The rear consists of their composite rear springs, shackle reverse kit and adjustable shocks.. Really impressed with the ride and handling of it now.

And the updated stance. The street grip kit shaved almost 200lbs off the truck. It rides better than stock and handles way better.. Very Happy with the kit.

Had to do a wheel and tire upgrade to take advantage of the suspension. Went with US Mags s200 in 18 X 8 and 18 x 9.5's. Tires are Nitto 255/45-18 and 295/45-18. A much better look.

This was a great truck to start with, looks like it's in great shape. I love the orange with the trim it has.

Well we took the looks part of it a little further also. I am kind of partial to orange and white as my other truck and boat are. We put little orange in the booth and updated.. I replaced all the mouldings with some Dynacorn replacements.
