      Tire Size question

      Hi all,

I just ordered (impulse order) a set of Continental extreme contact sport tires and wanted to make sure that they will fit the wheels i have.

Wheel size Front : 18X8 with 265/X (purposely putting X here as i don't want to complicate the convo)
      Wheel size Rear : 19X10 with 285/X

Has anybody run these wheel widths with the tire widths listed? What i am hoping to get is that the tire is flush with the lip of the wheel. If there is going to be bulge / stretch I want to go back and order the a better size.

Thanks for you help, need to do this today as my new Boze wheels just arrived and want to get tires on them ASAP.

Need to fill in the x for a proper response. Check the tire spec in tirerack and that will answer. Front will be WAY stretched.

Did you mean pinched, because a 265 on an 8 is pinched.

Yes, need to know the X....it matters.

Basically you are looking for a section width that is 1" wider than the advertised rim width to be flush.

The 285s should be fine in the rear in either the 30 or 35 series.

Front.....225s......if you want it flush but I would probably run the 235/40-18.

When the rims are being custom built, I pick the tires first.

Yes I did. trying to do two things at once...
265 is a wide tire for an 8" rim assuming a short profile tire IMO. I have done it with a 40 series but it did not look right to me.

      Yep.

      OP, that's why the X matters. A 265/75-15 is fine on an 8" wheel.....even a 7 but a 265/35-18 want's a 9 at least and is very happy on a 9.5.
