Don't own anything yet but my dad had a 1979 Chevy malibu when I was a kid and I always thought they were awesome. That being said I don't see much by way of upgrades. Was wondering if the Detroit speed X-gen front suspension would work. What s the track width of stock?

There's lots of stuff out there for G bodies. What are your plans? Cruiser or track bruiser? Both?

The cool thing is they're similar in size and weight to a Camaro, they have a 108" wheelbase like Camaros and the rear axle wheel surface to wheel surface is 58". They can stuff a 275 tire front and rear with minimal mods. A full frame and triangulated 4 link is a bit of a better start than the pony cars, however the chassis is a little flimsy and the rear suspension is prone to bind. All that can be fixed, for example a frame box kit stiffens things up and Speedtech articulink arms help reduce that bind. Like most GM muscle cars the factory geometry sucks but that can all be alleviated with aftermarket suspension parts.

I have Speedtech's full suspension on my car with Viking Crusader coilovers and it rocks. For the first round before joining the Speedtech crew I went with the popular name brand adjustable upper arm on the front with solid trailing arms on the rear, lowered springs and non coilover single adjustable shock route, but for what I do with the car it left a lot of performance on the table. I tried 3 different brand springs and I could never get the spring rate and ride height I wanted either. Changing to Speedtech suspension made a noticeable difference plus adding the Crusader coilovers really opened my eyes to the potential of these cars.

I currently have 3 Pro Touring G bodies in the family and have been messing with them for about 10 years now. if you have any particular questions feel free to ask here or you can PM me or call me @ Speedtech anytime. My car is the street fighter mode "Pumkinator" and below that is my son's "Coppertop". We have another under construction and will be a sweet daily cruiser as Pumkinator is undergoing some hardcore upgrades.

For quick and cheap you can upgrade brakes using 98+ s10 blazer spindles, hubs, rotors, and dual piston calipers. It's a direct bolt on and offers a nearly 50% larger pad surface. Add in tall upper and lower balljoints and the suspension is relatively dialed in for not a while lot of money.

My whole front end is made of Speedtech parts, and it's well worth the money. I did, however, use UMI hardware to mount it. Both are great companies with amazing products. (I would have a Shwartz chassis to praise about if I could afford one lol)
