suggestion on camera for track event

Heading back to the track and was pondering on buying a camera to mount inside the car on the roll bar. any suggestions or should I just go with a GoPro 4 or 5?

      thanks for any feedback,
      Tony

The vid in my sig is an Iphone with ram mount suction cupped to windshield. Iphone running Track Addict app by HP Tuners--Free. Has overlay and uses the phone GPS and accelerometer for MPH, track position and g-force data. Vast database of racetracks. Very easy to use--just download and go. Most everyone already has this in their pocket. Also supports OBDII wireless communication to also log any ECU signals (RPM, temps, etc.)

I too use trackaddict app on my droid, and a RAM suction cup X-grip. I find the sound quality is fairly good, clear enough to hear shifting and motor and determine how the car is running. Visually, the pic is stable and clear. I see many GoPro's, but for the cost, this is the way to go unless you want something beyond trackaddict. https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=A50GQd5JH-0

I have used my iphone with the Ram mounts and track addict with success. I just bought a GoPro5 on sale for $300, going to try that one out now.

And the two (GoPro and trackaddict) are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Pretty sure the app can accept a GoPro input too. Can also take inputs from external GPS's as well. The app is an easy button for an acquisition package. There are more expensive options out there (that may be better in some ways), but for the investment (almost nothing), Trackaddict is pretty amazing, and nothing lost if you don't like it. I was blown away when I first heard about it.

Gopro 5 for me. Love the video quality. Need to get an external mic for it now.

for $60 I got a maginon from Aldi. It supposedly does 4k or 1080 at up to 60fps. It seems like the automatic focus and light balancing features are not as good as a gopro, but for less than 1/2 the money it's not disappointing.

I think that the $200 gopro session is the one to have as an all around-er. If your only purpose is track day stuff (and you aren't ever going to wear the camera) the Garmin products are the best. It's really cool to see your heart rate as you drive, and the built-in GPS features are great.
