Decided to fix my 327, but wich cam for it?

My 327 started making bad noises and I thought about changing it out but now I'm in the process of renovating it, I'm gonna put a pair of 64cc 492 heads on it, they are ported out and flows wery good
I have flat top pistons and it's bored out to a 331
      I'm running a 4 speed manual and 3,55 gears
I really would like to have a high rpm engine up to 7000 would be fun, so wich camshaft should I go for?

You and I have very similar engines. I have a 331 with 11:1 compression and 195cc aluminum heads.

My cam is a Crane retrofit roller that has the same specs as the GM847 cam that is very popular with the LT1 crowd. It's known for being a very high-winding cam (6500+).

      Duration @ 050: 234/242
      Intake Lift: 0.539
      Exhaust Lift: 0.558
      LSA: 112

However, after having this cam for a long time I honestly think it's too big for only 331 ci. It drives fine on the street and the idle is pretty rowdy, but it just doesn't produce the power or the RPM you would expect. If I had it to do over I would go with a cam in the 228/228, 500 lift range.

There is a free program from Comp Cams called "Cam Quest 6" that you can download from their website. --> http://www.compcams.com/downloads/register.asp

It's really very helpful in seeing how an engine might respond to different cam combinations.

Also, If you really want to spin 7,000 RPM make sure you build a bottom end that can take it.

Got a 236/236 with 0.500 lift and 110 lobe separation for it.
Hoping it's going to be good

Nice - let us know how it works for you. I'd be especially interested if you dyno the engine.

What's going into the rest of your build? (heads, rotating assembly, intake manifold, etc.)

Good luck, and keep us updated!

I'm also running a 331ci - 327 was "rebuilt" by prior owner. =) All new parts inside, but NO machine work or block prep was done. Cheap hone job. I went with hyper flat tops, the RPM cam, intake, roller tip rockers, gear drive and a fresh set of 462 64cc heads. Should have good "street" power from 1500-6500 rpms. I'm "hoping" this thing fires up as I'm running out of time for the next show. Oh, I'm also running a T350 and I've got a new rear end about to be picked up - running so it should be a fun ride.

If you really want to turn 7000rpm and make power, you need a solid flat tappet. What is the rest of the combo? Long tubes? Give a little more info and I can hone in what you need. No hyd is going to rev like you want and still be streetable. FYI, better heads are the best $$$ you'll spend. Brodix or AFR all the way.

I'm gonna settle for 6500, got my cam today and installed it, then I thought bi would torque the mains on the crank, did 35ft and it spins fine, but at 70 it's stuck? I have had it machined and polished 0.20 and the bearings say 0.20, sounds like the machine shop done something wrong :(
Gonna go there and make him measure all again..

Have you thought of running stud girdles.since you are running up so high.I have a blown f377 cubic small block with a Wolverine hydraulic roller cam of I run up to 6500 RPM .And I run Crane stud girdles.

Looks sweet. I'll send myself some pics (from my phone) and post a couple. I had to break mine back down to a bare block to have some additional work/cleaning done on it, but hope to get it back this weekend and put it all back together once again. It did should HEALTHY during the break in run, but very low oil pressure made me pull it back out.

I'll try and post some pics soon.
