      Ls3 starter won't fit on t56

So got a ls3 pull out with tr6060 and ditched the tr6060 for a t56.. well the trans wouldnt go on the engine.. after some head scratching found that the starter was hitting the t56.

Took off the starter and bam fit like a glove, anyone ran into this issue? Also are the ls3 starters the same from a ls1 camaro? Fitment wise?

Also noticed that one of starter bolts is hard to go back In which is kind of weird

I'm running an fbody T56 on an LS3 with an LS1 starter. It does differ slightly from a corvette starter, but I do recall using the vette starter on other projects in the past. I'd go with the LS1 starter, I used it many times on previous builds without issue.

OP, is your T56 out of a GTO? If so, the bellhousing of the transmission and the starter are unique to that vehicle application...an F-body or other LS starter will not install on an a GTO engine/T56 transmission.

Thanks for replys..I should have clarified a few things first...
I have a 98-02 fbody t56 and the ls3 is a 2014 camaro ss. I swapped the oil pan to the holley 302-2.

So If I understand correctly I can use a 98-02 fbody starter and be good?

Doesn't change angle or anything? Just don't want a nice grinding or sticking on fly when starting

      Search for 12617229 on ls1tech.

12617229 is the part number for the LS3 starter you have. There are few threads there describing what you need to do to the T56 bell housing to make it fit.

Thank you for the reply.. Looks like I'm doing a little grinding which I'm ok with..

But just learned that I'm going to have to figure out how to wire up the starter since it's different

I just had an issue with an LS3 starter on an LS3 with the Holley pan and a 4L65E. Had to do a little grinding, issue was the pan. Last one I did fit no issue so something changed on the pan, looks like the post casting machining near the starter.

I use a 5th Gen Camaro starter with a gen 4 f-body bellhousing. All you need to do is grind inside the belhousing where the starter cone goes in. I used a little flapper wheel on a Dremel. You don't need to remove a lot of material.

Thanks for the replys... tuff stuff isn't a bad idea as long as no shims are needed and lines right up?

I'd like to save some coin at this point and just grind a bit to get to fit

It's a 15 minute job. I did it with the bellhousing and transmission already installed on the engine.

Question for you, how did you wire up this one to your car? Being a connector and all

If you run the F body LS1 starter it will drop right in. I'd rather do that than grind anything. Must have been a change in the bellhousing design.
