      LS3 525 hp bell housing

      Thoughts on the stock GM aluminum bell housing and transmission installation kit, part #
      19301625
      its an LS7 set up parts wise I believe. I'm not so concerned about the clutch but more so the safety of the bell housing

      That's the same setup we use on most of our LS / T56 swaps.

      The steel Quicktime bell housing is safer of course, but up to you. It's about a $350 difference between the alum and the QT steel one.

      I understand the safety of a steel one, but how common is it for the aluminum one to fail? or even for a clutch to completely fail in a matter that harms the bell housing?

      1 is too many....
      If you ever plan on sustaining over 3500 rpm I would use a steel bellhousing.
      Risk vs reward is just too much. Your feet and legs are worth the upcharge!!

      The 3 examples posted are qualified as being extremely atypical.

      Millions of cars built from Stangs to Camaros the Vette ZO6s and everywhere in between with alum bells and they are not exploding clutches and blowing off body parts. Lol

      I completely understand that it is horrid if it ever happens and when building expensive cars like we do an extra $300 is well worth the insurance, but I have personally never heard of a lsx/t56 car exploding the clutch to a point where it comes through the floor. Not to say its never happened, but seems pretty rare in my opinion.

      But I could be 100% wrong, luckily for me I have all my toes!

      I'm not saying they are ticking time bombs, but a clutch or flywheel can let go.
      Especially the way we treat these cars.

      I just think the extra margin of safety is well worth it.

      My story is not with one blowing up that I was driving but was next to on the starting line. Guy next to me in a Maverick, his flywheel exploded pieces bounced off the ground and broke the drivers side window in the truck i was driving by pinching the channel where the window rolls up into at the top (78 Chevy truck). A couple of other pieces went through the truck in the back. A few inches lower and the piece that broke the window would have hit me in the head. So a scattershield not just for your safety. I made my son who is building his T/A put one is his T56 swap.
