I sympathize with you. Things that are a pita will make you wonder why this has to be. You're going through teething but from what I can tell, everyone is rooting for you. At this point I'm sure you are aware why people use run stands or dynos' before they install the engine. Because of the uncharted territory of your combination, I would expect a few bugs in the bug. I know, real poor taste on my part. If there's anything that I can do from half way across the USA, I'd be glad to help. I like unconventional stuff!

Yes you are 100% correct. I have a run stand and should have run it. Actually, I should have caught this in assembly but the crank sensor was installed after the engine was in the car. I am actually surprised at how long it lasted for. I needed a 3/16" spacer to make it clear as I found out tonight. I compared my sensor to a 2.4L sensor and they are the same length. So I am guessing the difference is in the block. 2.4Ls probably have a smaller diameter reluctor.

But in the end, a new crank sensor fixed the problem. Runs just fine again. Its sad that a $16 part and a washer ruined my day.

Well not too much to report on the Bug. It runs and drives. No more metal in the engine so all is good. It was actually quite a bit less then I imagined. So all good!

So since the Bug is good, it was time to take the Jeep on another shorter road trip. This time up to Utah. Stopping by Speedtech in the morning to see what cool stuff they have going on. Then back home and back to work.

In the Video the guy says it has an LS in it. lol...maybe 1/2 of an LS.
Being an aircooled VW guy from way back, and a car guy in general, I love this build.
Glad you got it figured out.

Haha ya he does that to me every race. I think the first time he said it had a turbo LS. Then just a normal LS and I think once he even said a supercharged LS. It sure doesnt sound like a LS though...

Glad to see another VW guy on here and thanks for the good words!

Since its just starting to cool off, it might be time for me to throw all the windows back in so I can drive it in the cold weather. My dad just got a vacation house up in the local mountains (Lake Arrowhead) and the road going up there is awesome! Cant wait to take the Bug up there and have some fun on the roads. I have no races for a few months so I need to have some fun somehow in the mean time.

Yeah, I started buying Hot VWs and VW Trends back in '87 when I was 14. My first car was a '70 sunroof. I had a '67 project but it fizzled and I ended up scrapping it. I want to do another '67 someday, they're my favorite year. My plan was L633 VW Blue paint and BRM wheels, with a narrowed/adjustable beam and dropped spindles. Probably a 2110CC engine. Maybe once my S10 (LQ4/4L80E) is done that can be the next project.

Well guys, I have been contemplating putting the Bug up for sale. I have had it for 5 years now and it might be time to build something different. Im just not sure where to list it since it is such an odd build. I dont even know what its worth! What do you guys think?

Haha thanks Andrew but not the answer I was looking for. I am pretty sure all the little issues have been fixed. I have been driving it around for the past few weeks without one issue. Well that is exception of my battery taking a dump. So ya, bring a trailer.

You were supposed to say, ya sell it so you can start another project that would be LS powered.

I'm with Andrew. Bring-a-Trailer is the perfect site for builds like this.

Oh wow. I thought Andrew meant physically bring a trailer, cause of the amount of small issues I have been having. Not an actual website haha. I will check it out.

It all makes sense now. I always hear people reference the "BAT auction" but never knew what it stood for. Now I know. Thanks for the help. I might just try it and hope for the best (with a reserve of course!).

Well the Bugs battery is officially dead. Even after I fully charge it, it wont start. So no more driving it until I get another one and replace it. Not looking forward to doing that. It is buried in the engine compartment. Might be a good time to relocate it to the front.

And in other news, my addiction has got worse. Jeep addiction that is.
