      Miata just died

I was driving into town and my 1992 Miata started losing power. I was downshifting to try to gain power but I kept slowing down. When it came to a stop it died like it ran out of gas. Since then I have replaced fuel pump and filter, fuel relay, new battery, alternator tested fine and new plugs and wires. Now it cranks but is not turning over. I made sure my firing order was correct but still nothing. I have spark, air, and fuel. I'm out of ideas. Anyone got any thoughts?

I believe your car is toast. You should now consider it a "project". May I suggest dropping in the latest LS engine you can acquire. A new sub-frame will also be required along with the complimentary suspension and coil-over springs. Certainly you will need a ford 9" differential to handle the new horse power. I would doubt you could fit in more than a 235-18 tire but a 245 might work if you roll the fender lips. Customizing the interior should provide some challenges and opportunities. I would also suggest a 4-point harness if you plan to track the car.

Sorry but that is about all the assistance I can provide. Good luck with the project and keep us updated.

      Unpossible.

You need spark, fuel, and compression for an engine to run. Sounds like a compression check is in order.

If you remove the oil fill cap, can you see the valvetrain? Does it move when the engine cranks?

My uncles van did the same thing and it was a clogged catalytic converter. We cut it open and one of the pieces broke loose and turned sideways the exhaust off. We gutted the cat and welded it back up and the thing had more power than it ever did! Could be something to check..... Just have someone put their hand over the exhaust while you crank it, you don't feel any air coming out then that's probably it

I was going to ask why he was driving his daughter's car in the first place, but you already covered the "add insult to injury" portion of this program.

I also suggest a compression check. If it's truly toast, I suggest a Monster Miata V8 conversion kit, too..
