      Temp sensor

Can a Temperature sender for a transmission be put in the cooling line close to the trans and get an accurate reading? I don't really want to drop the pan and put a fitting in it right now.

Although I will suggest the sensor belongs in the pan/sump, I will also argue that the temperature in the line BEFORE the cooler will at least be 'consistent'. You use the term 'accurate' - and I suspect by that you mean 'can you use it as a reflection or indication of a temperature issue within the trans'. With the sensor in the line your 'Normal' temp may be different than what 'Normal' might be with the sensor some other place. But once you establish normal for that sensor location, then you will know when the temp is higher than normal and lower than normal. So in that sense I will say that it is 'accurate' and provides value.

      IMHO ...
