Well, that was unexpected: engine/trans weights

So I decided to swap out a 4.6l dohc + t45 to an ls3 + tr6060 combo for multiple reasons, one of which was weight. Long story short, ford weighs in at 667lbs and chevy at 677lbs.

Both: starter, alternator, intake, water pump, power steering pump, engine oil
4.6l dohc: long tube headers, no ac compressor, dry trans
ls3: stock manifolds, ac compressor, wet trans

I was expecting the mod motor combo to be heavier since the dohc seems to have an online reputation as being heavy. Even accounting for the tr6060 being heavier than the t45, it looks like that reputation is unjustified. Oh well, I still hope to appreciate the smaller size, lower cg, extra torque/hp/gear of the ls3 combo.

I'll take on an extra ten pounds for another 1.6L any day.
Then there is the difference in physical size..... damn those Mod Motors are huge!

Definitely not worse for the extra weight of the TR to be in the middle of the car anyways, weight loss on the nose is the most critical and that's where you've gained.

The LS3 has the AC compressor which is just over 13lbs.
It has fluid in the trans, the other doesn't, maybe 2lbs?
There are a lot of weight gains to be made in exhaust too. If I read your post right one of these already has the lighter headers while the other still has the heavy exhaust manifolds.
