      I made 3 solid laps.

Car felt ok..... I have found what needs working on...

Steering wheel is soft and i think i broke it.

Seating position need to be lower, im 6'4" and 295lbs in the smallest car ever...

      Brakes suck. Alot

      and some other little quirks...

Middle of the 3rd lap i heard a pop.

pulled off and inspected. couldnt find anything, so we put on the camera and sent it.

made it 3/4 of a lap and the clutch exploded.... at least i hope thats what it is, there were fragments all over.

You can hear it in the video, slipping pretty bad.

Note* this was a full shake down, wasnt worried about race line, hand position or any of that.

and now is broken and i need to pull the trans.

Ugh, never fun when that happens, but I suppose that's what shakedowns are for.

      Pulled the trans last night.

This will be the 5th time have had this stupid thing out...... And its leaking again, so i guess it was going to come out no matter what.

First side of the clutch, thinking this isnt too bad???

Were you doing a lot of downshifting?

Gee...how did I know that? What I see on the remains of the disk material is a lot of glazing. This is a sign that the clutch was overheating. I suspect the disk overheated to such an extent that the organic friction material started to break down. Hence, we see the result.

Downshifting without RPM matching will wear a clutch out very, very quickly. This is especially true if the course is such that there is a lot of downshifting happening. Organic friction material isn't designed to take a lot of heat and on a road course like you were on, there was no time for the disk to cool down.

Your option is to either learn a different driving style or get a clutch disk with material that is better suited to withstand heat, or both.

      Andrew

P.S. Watched the video...and after about the 2:00 minute mark, I can hear the clutch slipping on the 2-3 shift. I suspect it just got worse and worse after that...need to watch the rest of the video...LOL

I was rev matching some and really wasnt driving that hard. I think the heat spot are from driving when the clutch was coming apart....

I did some research and called Mcleod, they had a bad run of material in the disc about 3 years ago, i bought the clutch 2 years ago..... maybe thats why.

I have bought a spec stage 2 to try.... hope i have a different outcome.

Clutch showed up. Along with a new tailshaft bushing, yoke and speedo gear.

The trans has leaked out of the tailshaft since day one and i have been through 2 bushings trying to stop it with no luck. So a 3rd and a new yoke may be my fix! lol

The Speedo was about 12 mph off, and i already changed to the highest tooth on the sensor, so i got a new main gear.

      Pressed in the new bushing.

No idea what or how this happened. Car was knocking when the clutch let go, but i just assumed it was the broken clutch hitting the bellhousing....

The stud on the heads is good, the pushrod and spring are good.

I can only assume it came loose somehow.... happens to the best of us right??

So the car is apart again...

Either the poly lock came loose or you have a damaged lifter or something. Do you get consistent valve movement on those cylinders vs. the rest?

Last time I had a rocker "come lose" it turned out to be a lifter on the CAM going flat. Do you have a flat tappet cam or roller?
