Help my C10 is killing me

My 68 C10 has a mid 80's chevy 350 with 350 auto tranny with 305 HO Heads. Everything is new on the engine except the fuel pump , gas tank and plug wires. After setting the timing at 34° all in , the truck continues to stall at every light in town. I've seen it run fine for several miles only to have it fight me just to keep it running. We up the idle on the new 680 Quick fuel carb but it continues to stall. I'm told the torque converter is ok so now I'm really puzzled.

any help would be very appreciated !

Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

Yes , using a gauge we checked all the vacuums and tuned the carb. Thanks

I was thinking more in terms of checking for leaks of the intake manifold to heads and carb.

Didn't think of the manifold with a possible leak. I'll check it. Thanks

Not knowing the history of this truck ,I now know it's previous owners have not been kind. The truck is now running fine. It's on its 3rd starter, I've replaced the carb, alternator, fuel pump, gas tank ,a lot of crappy wiring, battery and cables. The trash in the gas tank and the torn sock on the sending unit caused a lot of my pain. Thanks for everyone's help!

I would check the powervalves on the carb too, a torn diaphragm may give yout a hard time idling at a light.

Just for information if you overhaul your motor and have the stock type fuel pump off for more than a few days where it has time dry out, REPLACE IT! I destroyed a motor because the fuel pump dried out and pumped the motor full of fuel. It took out rod, cam, main bearings requiring a new crank. I was lucky it did not spin main or cam bearings.

Sounds like way to much carb to me.

Are you timing with vaccum advance plugged?
