Very nice! Was this car featured in VW Trends years ago? There was a white Ghia with window tabs featured back in the 90's that always stuck with me.

Yep Same car -- I bought from original owner about 3 years ago -- It had been setting for about 10 years while he went open wheel racing -- I originally was going to remove the tabs as I brought this back to street car form, but after looking at it over the course of the redo, they grew on me to the point that I've left them and really like the 'look'.

I've been trying to find that issue of VW Trends for quite a while, can't even find out which issue it was ---- -- --

Appreciate any help finding a copy of that magazine.....

Only the body and cage are the same as when I got it -- -- Everything has been updated, new and improved -- -- I now got over 300HP to the rear wheels -- instantly blew up the Porsche trans that came with it -- I've been chasing the 'next' piece to break as I continue to sort this puppy out

Glad I was able to find it! Been getting VW mags since I was around 9-10 years old so it was one if the earliest I have, I'm 27 now. I'd rather not let mine go but this guy has one here:

Thanks! Mag is from August of '97, VW Trends. The VW is an original paint '64 sunroof. Has a 90 hp 1679cc that broke a valve spring at the end of last year. Going back with better heads, bigger cam, etc and hoping to make 140 hp and get into the mid 8's in the 1/8th mile. Buying up parts for a ~210 hp 2276cc stroker as well. I've built some wider 356 style wheels for it and have slowly been setting it up for autocross. Hope to get it going soon.

Thanks -- I had bought some hubs that were drilled for either Chevy or Porsche patterns and was actually thinking about going with Chevy rims as I've got a ton of friends that do the bow tie thing and I thought I might be able to get some castoffs from them -- -- But was cruising CL one day when these 16" Phone-dials popped up and they were listed for almost nothing and they had good roll around rubber on them AND they were about 10 miles from the house -- SLAM DUNK to me LOL -- And like you said, once I saw them on there, just knew they fit the car................

Just been having a little trouble getting tires that are small enough to fit under the fenders and have sticky enough rubber -- current have some 225/55 Yokohama s-drives with 240 TW and they tend to slide around a bit under power -- the next step is tubing the rear and going coil overs -- that project is skeering me LOL -- So I'll try this setup out for a while and enjoy it!!

Getting ready to button this rebuild up --- so did a quick tear down to add a couple of pieces of bling and show off the engine...... I only pealed off the sheet metal and put on a new fan shroud today -- -- I have one word of warning, have all your stuff powder coated at one time and not 4 months apart like I did -- you'll see why LOL

First off this engine is a 2989cc toy -- It is 90mm stroke by 104mm (.030 over 4") It was constructed using SBC chevy pistons and rods and the crank was ground to accept small journal chevy rods -- It also uses APRM custom Siamese barrels, These are over 40 years old and pretty much made of unobtainium, as well as the ARPM case that everything bolts to. The engine is topped off with a rare set of angle port heads with 50 int 40 ext valves in it,, (they have just started offering repops of this head).. I'll pop up a couple of pictures so you can see the very different setup, stud pattern, and how close the sleeves are together (OK they are touching)

AND Finally -- -- all back together -- what a crappy picture, taken at night -- need a better one tomorrow
