1986 Elcamino 480HP LS Crate Engine- Looking for A/C Compressor -Which One should I

1986 Elcamino 480HP LS Crate Engine- Looking for A/C Compressor -Which One should I go with and why??? I will be using the Corvette front set up, less the A/C.

      1. LS A/C Accessory Drive Bracket - Passenger’s Side Bracket Only (A/C) - Fits Sanden SD508 or SD7 Comp. PART# 20-134

      2. LS A/C Accessory Drive Bracket - Passenger's Side A/C Bracket - works with R4 compressor PART# 20-133

So there are 3 different compressors!!

      1. Sanden SD508
      2. SD7 Comp.
      3. R4 Compressor

      Thanks RW

On my 65 elco, using a factory evap, I'm using a 508 w/ this mount and drive

      http://www.vintageair.com/lschevycompbrktdownloads.asp

Reasons: cleaner front of engine, universal availability of e 508 pump, large enough pump to support a factory evap (compared to an SD7), and a more robust and versatile pump than an R4 (refrigerant selection, mounting orientation, and durability

The 508 has more capacity than the SD7- 138cc vs 100cc.
However the SD7 is more compact and since the displacement is smaller it can likely hold up to higher sustained rpm.. Don't quote me on that part though.

      I don't know anything about the R4.

R4 is 10 cubic inches (about 160cc.) Again, if you are running the factory A/C system, the SD7 may be performance limited, particularly at lower engine speeds.

Might want to look at pulley drive ratios, while considering a programming change to cut the compressor at higher engine rpm.
