      What is this sound deadner?

Been finding this lightweight fibrous material on the inside of some interior panels on newer luxury cars... Im assuming its some kind of sound deadner (sp?) Any ideas? This is from a '15 S550 Benz

It doesn't look like foam to me.

Its definitely not a foam... Its not very dense either. I know the pic is not great but it is some kind of synthetic fabric that is layered to get that thickness

      Chris,

My guess is that it acts as a cushion, so that when the panel is installed the material in question is slightly compressed and it keeps the panel from eventually rattling. Maybe it is thick felt?
