      Anyone running without inner fenders?

I have a 1970 Pontiac Lemans and was wondering if I could run without them for a week or so. I poked my head in there last night and it looked like they may be helping to hold the outer fender in place and now I'm wondering if I need them to support the front clip.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could probably do a week, it might not be that huge of a deal as drag racers have done them for years. The biggest problem is a dirty engine compartment, and a potential for outward dents in the hood and fenders from slinging rocks. But the inner fenderwells do provide structure as well, the whole system works together to make the fenders much more rigid to the core support and cowl, in addition to supporting the hood hinge mounting locations (which is what I'd worry about the most, I can see this section of the hood jamb bending without later support offered by the inner fenderwell).

I may pull them, make a few cuts to give me some more tire clearance and then put them back on.
