      5 3/4" headlight recommendation

Hi guys, I'm looking for some headlights for my 65 Chevelle. I'd like something better than stock, but I do not want to cut the core support to fit them. I have a new AAW harness and will be using relays. What are some options? Thanks.

Here is a suggestion, with a link... I'm thinking about ordering some for my Monte Carlo. They were in Super Chevy like 3 issues ago, hope this helps. http://www.chevelle.com/1964-1970-Ha...hts-P7969.aspx

I looked at the Rimi lights. They are nice but I think they might not fit in my car with out cutting the core support. I tried the Delta halogens but they didn't fit. Do you happen to know how much clearance is needed in the back of the bulb to fit?

Those look pretty good. How deep do they need to mount? Are they for US and not European cars?

      Don't buy Euro lights.

But any of the "crystal" clear lens headlights from ebay will fit in the car with no cutting.

Here is a not real awesome picture - but trust me when I say I didn't cut anything. I did not install them in the low beams yet BECAUSE I wanted to retrofit projectors and that would require A LOT of cutting and I just haven't work up the nut to do it yet.

I like those. Do you know what they were called or the seller? Do you have the dimensions front to rear of the bulb? Question though, you state that you didn't install the low beams yet, but in the picture the bulb is in the low beam (outer) location. The reason I ask is that on my core support the outer bulb depth is not much of an issue since the core support already has a hole in it. The high beam (inner) location on the core support is solid and would need to be cut out if the bulb is too deep.

If you do any decent amount of driving at night, go for projectors like the Black flame custom ones. You will be wondering why you didnt do it sooner. You will likely have to modify the bucket a bit to get them to fit though. Worth it!
Also, GE 4537 Aircraft landing lights for the high beam fit with no cutting and will give you incredible light output.

Thanks. Those look nice but I'm not willing to cut the core support. The car is already painted, and I'm hiding all of the wiring so I don't want a plug showing through the core support.

Ahh well that makes sense... look into cibie for the low beams then http://www.danielsternlighting.com/p.../products.html and make sure the aircraft lights get at least 14awg power and ground cables.

you wouldn't be cutting the core support...you'd just be elongating the hole in the headlight bucket, which is seperate from the core support

This is what you'd need to modify
would be a 2 second paint touchup..plus lights completely cover it anyways..

I have a 65 Chevelle as well. I originally made a set of HID headlamps for it and they worked ok. Had to cut up the bucket to let the projector through. Wasn't too happy with the overall fit so for the next round I used these: HELLA 002850871 Vision Plus 135mm. I also referenced Daniel Stern lighting. These are Euro spec H4 headlamps with a 80/100w bulbs wired off of relays and ceramic H4 connectors as they pull a lot of current. For the high beams I used a set of the generics that everyone sells. Overall the setup works really well. The high wattage bulbs along with the glass E-code spec headlamps are so bright that I rarely use the brights. And when I do it lights up the street like a floodlight. They are even brighter than a few newer cars and trucks I've driven. For the future I want to replace the high beams with a set of Oracle headlamps with a yellow halo (Oracle Lighting 6904-005 Amber 5.75" ). The halo ring would be wired into the turn/park lights. I mocked up a headlight with a parking light built in and I would have had to cut the bucket to accomodate the bulb so that's why I like the halo ring. And as far as installation the Hellas fit with no cutting required. It was tight but no issues after 6k miles of daily driving. The Hellas may not look fancy like the generics but the function far outweighs the look. HTH.

      Alex
