68 camaro project $15k
UPDATE 7/3/15 loaded car up on trailer to take to shop & have someone finish it for me.
offering 1 last chance for someone to get a good deal & help me avoid shelling out more cash.
price reduced to $13k firm
1968 camaro
new vortec 5.3l aluminum LSX engine & 4L60E tranny, drive-by-wire
unisteer rack/pinion steering
speartech reworked harness with cruise-control
american autowire harness with colored/labeled wires
autokraft oil pan & engine mounts
stainless-works headers
global west suspension (qa1 coil-overs, L2 leaf springs, subframe connectors, 1” sway bar)
spc-performance upper a-arms
wildwood brakes (140-7675, 140-7141)
CPP master cylinder w/ built in prop valve
stainless fuel tank with baffle kit
stainless fuel lines
seats replaced with ’69 headrest seats & new covers
aluminum radiator w/ trans cooler
$3600 in various replacement parts from classic industries including: center console with gauges, horseshoe shifter & 4speed shifter conversion , tic-toc-tac, oem looking radio with cd changer in trunk, 3pt seat belts
paperwork & receipts for everything
library of camaro manuals/books
TO GET VEHICLE DRIVABLE (without hood):
weld subframe connectors
purchase/install drive shaft
purchase/install adapters for steering pump to rack/pinion & attach steering shaft
purchase install mufflers/exhaust pipes
purchase/install battery
install radiator & fan
fill/bleed brakes
mount pcm
mount accelerator pedal
HOOD WORK:
power steering pump will need to be relocated for hood clearance, here is 1 solution http://kwikperf.com/lsx_alt_ps.html
for hood to clear intake you can either replace the truck style intake with a car style version
or a fiberglass cowl hood can be used. steel cowl hoods have the cross bracing under the cowl that would be in the way. i suppose it could be cut out
OTHER TO DO:
replace aluminum bushing with poly, donno what i was thinking when i installed aluminum
car needs some body work. dent on top of driver’s side fender & bondo patched dent behind driver’s side rear window. trunk pan & rear floor pans are good. front floor pans have been por-15’d to stop rust spread.
needs new wheels/tires. 15” wheels surprisingly clear 12” wilwoods with a 1/8” spacer so it’s drivable with existing wheels
hook up wiring to instrument cluster on tranny tunnel
find a suitable cruise-control turn-signal stick assuming you want cruise
alignment
$24k invested along with endless hours
started this project before i had kids & no longer have the time to continue it. car hasn’t been touched in 5yrs
my goal was to have an original looking as possible commuter car that was light weight (aluminum block/heads/tranny/wheels/brakes/drive-shaft) & high mpg
