      403 Turbo suggestions?

Just some thoughts what do you guys think about a Turbonetics 75/75 .96 billet wheel on a 403 with CNC LS3 heads? I think its going to be undersized for the engine, but I wanted to get some more input. I have two ways I can go with this build, I can build a 370 or a 403 with the parts I have. I would just need to buy the crank.

I replied to your thread on yb. What are your goals, and what's the hot side setup for?

That would depend on what boost levels, power, fuel you would plan to run as well.
Purely for CI's and efficiency of the turbo, too small for a 403, a bit on the medium size for a 370(can't turn it up past 20-22psi without Back-pressure/efficiency issues)

Hey sorry I left it a little vague, The car is a 69 GTO, a driver and occasional track car. The intent is for 650 rwhp safely. I was only looking at running 10 psi with an intercooler. I have almost all of the parts I need to build both motors. I just dont have a crank or cam for the 403 yet.

This is what I have so far to build with.

      Turbonetics hurricane 72/68 .86
      Turbonetics billet wheel 75/75 .96

      370 ci

821 WCCH stage 2 CNC heads with SS manley valves, PSI .660 behive springs
Mast VVT SS cam 230/237 .588/.607 111 LSA
Wiesco +.030 pistons teflon coated skits, -12 cc dish, cryogenic treated
SCAT H-beam rods with ARP 2000 bolts, cryogenic treated
Stock crank, ground, and cryo treated
      ARP main/head studs
      Cometic .040 head gaskets
Clevite coated H bearings , cryo treated

      403 ci
821 Lingenfelter full CNC heads, SS valves, .660 Behive springs
      no cam yet
Diamond +.010 pistons, teflon skirts, ceramic coated tops, cryo treated
Callies compstar H beam rods, ARP 2000 rod bolts, cryo treated
      no crank yet
      ARP head/main studs
      Cometic .040 head gaskets
      Clevite coated H-bearings, cryo treated

As I had said I just want a driver with a reliable setup that I can take to the track on occasion.

If you have those turbo's, run the smaller ci engine.

I was thinking of trying to do twin 72s on the 403, but I am not sure what I am going to do.

Do you have two of the same turbo's, or were you looking at purchasing the two turbo's you listed earlier? If you do twins on the 403, it would be very nasty. Just make sure the units are identical. I can set you up with a callies, or lunati crank should you want to go that route.

I have a 72mm hurricane right now and a 75/75 billet wheel. Both are brand new,but I was thinking of buying another 72mm and doing twins. I am just unsure of how the motor would be with twin 72s.

Personally, I think most people get too carried away when building turbo engines. I am slowly doing some research and as I read various posts and see the various dyno sheets I realize that most people run turbos that are way too big. This is understandable if you want to drag race the car, as most people on LS1tech tend to do. But for our purposes and for street driving, you are way better off with a smaller, more responsive turbo.

I learned a lot by playing with the Borg Warner Airwerks MatchBot. There are some excellent tutorials on how to use it.

Here is a combination that I picked out for a 6.2L with a pair of fairly small turbos:

      6.2L twins

Notice the boost curve and the RPM where it comes in. The engine will be a torque monster. Personally, that is what I want in a turbo engine. The great thing about the AirWerks calculator is that it lets you match the turbine wheel and housing to estimate how responsive the combination will be.

How much will the cnc heads cost? Why not go with a aftermarkert casting to get a thicker deck?

Andrew if you would have just bought the 72mm off me this wouldn't be an issue..haha. The aftermarket heads would have been an additional 1000.00 over what I paid to have my heads fully CNCd. I am not looking for monster power engines, just something fun and streetable. I wont get close to a boost/power level in which I would need a thicker head.

      LOL...well, there is that...

I would build a 370ci engine and do the 75/75 turbo.

GEEZ, at first I thought you was talking about a worthless weak window 403 Olds engine.
Please, mention 403 designate its type like sbc, sbo, or ls.
As for the LS, use any of the turbo matching programs.
Heck I usedhttp://www.turbofast.com.au/javacalc.html, and it told me the same GT28(GT2871R, .64ar) will feed a twin turbo, intercooled gasoline engine into the 600hp on my .040 283 sbc.
And well over 770hp on my near stock 454 on 5 psi with an intercooler.
