Goodguys 2014 Autox Finals Shootout Info- Scottsdale Nov 14-15, 2014

      Goodguys 2014 AutoCross Finals Shootout
Presented by BFGoodrich Tires, K & N Filters and TREMEC.

Goodguys 2014 AutoCross Finals Shootout will be held at the 17th Southwest Nationals event in Scottsdale, AZ on November 14 & 15, 2014. This will be the second year Goodguys has a yearend shootout with prize money and national bragging rights for the winner. Below is information on how you can be part of the AutoCross Finals Shootout.
There will be a total of 32 cars with 32 drivers for the Finals Shootout.

Four ways to get into the Finals are:
      1. The fastest time of the event classes for each of the fifteen Goodguys AutoCross Events before the 2014 17th Southwest Nationals, will automatically be entered into the finals (vehicles must be 72’ or older in appearance). At the time of the competition ending, the fastest time winner will be asked if he or she wants to be in the finals. The car that they are driving will be the car they must drive in the finals. If they do not want to be part of the finals or if they do not want to drive the car from that event they can decline. The next eligible fastest time will then get the invite and must go through the same Final process. They must then sign the AutoCross Finals Shootout Contract stating that they will take part in the shootout with the car they ran at the event. If someone is the fast time at more than one event the next fastest time eligible will be entered so we have fifteen entries from the events. Once a car and/or driver are in the Finals, that driver and car cannot get into the finals a second time, and the car cannot gain any points for any other driver.

      2. We will have the top nine from the PRO Class that are not already entered into the Finals to increase the field to twenty-four cars. This will be combined points of all classes to get the top nine. The nine will need to drive a car they received points with during the season for the Finals Shootout. They can also decline and we will take the next eligible racer to fill the field to twenty-four cars. (vehicles must be 72’ or older in appearance)

      3. There will be three finalists from the America Street Car Series. The three events to qualify at are: Run to Music City, Run to VIR and Hot August Nights AutoCross. (vehicles must be 72’ or older in appearance)

      4. Five spots will be open for someone to run fast time at Scottsdale on Friday, November 14th to get into the field. We will take the top five times that are eligible to make a thirty-two car field for Saturdays action packed shootout. (vehicles must be 72’ or older in appearance)

The top twenty-seven cars will get a free entry for their car and two weekend people passes to the event in Scottsdale.

      Prizes:

 Goodguys will be paying the top four places of the Shootout –
      o 1st $3,000.00
      o 2nd $1,250.00
      o 3rd $500.00
      o 4th $250.00
      - BF Goodrich will have Gift Certificates for a set of tires to the top four racers.
      - K & N Filters will also be proving gift certificates for $250.00 off product to the top four.
      - TREMEC will have gift certificates for discounts off a transmission for the top four.
      - The winner of the Shootout will become the AutoCrosser of the Year as part of our Top 12 Awards. There will be a feature in the Goodguys Gazette on the winner and a Billet Award presented during the awards on Sunday. The winner will also receive a Snap-On Tool Box (Valued at $7,000.00) with the AutoCross Logo.

*This event maybe filmed for later broadcast.
The format for the event will be as follows:
      1. Friday there will be twenty-seven pit spots for the people already in the finals and they will run with anyone trying to race into the finals.
      2. Friday we will take the top ten fast times not already in.
      3. Saturday from 8am to 9am the top ten from Friday will race to become the top five and set the 32 car field.
      4. Saturday from 9am to noon we will let the thirty-two cars run as many laps as they want to get their fastest time for qualifying for the Shootout.
      5. Saturday at 1:30pm we will start the eliminations on a 32 car PRO ladder. By the end of the day we will have the winner of the Goodguys AutoCross Finals Shootout presented by BFGoodrich Tires, K & N Filters and TREMEC.

The year has already had some great racing with only two events in the books.
Brian Hobaugh raced to get fast time at Scottsdale and his 65 Chevy Corvette is now in the Finals.
Brian was chased by Kyle Tucker in his 70 Camaro at both Scottsdale and Texas. Kyle would not be faster than Brian's Camaro in Texas but would get the invite to the Finals.

We have now two top fast guys with Chevy cars in and alot of others working to be fast and get in also.

Next event is Pleasanton where we will take a 72 or older vehicle into the finals. This weekend Goodguys is reducing the size of the Swap Meet area to give the AutoCross a larger area to run. Look for Mike Maier and other racers to be fast and maybe have another make of car in the finals.

The week after is Del Mar and as always this event has proved to be slick at the start but fast at the end. Goodguys will not have the Editors Shootout so both days will be full on racing.

Look forward to seeing you at a Goodguys Event.

Well after five events we have three more racers that are into the Finals Shootout in Scottsdale AZ in November.

Mike Maier took his 66 Mustang to the top of the speed charts in Pleasanton CA at the All American Get-Together and got his ticket to race in the finals.

Greg Thurmond took his 63 Corvette to the top spot at Del Mar and put on a great show for everyone.

Danny Popp came from Ohio to Florida to make sure he secured a spot in the finals with his 72 Corvette.

So we now have 3 Corvettes, 1 Camaro and 1 Mustang in the finals. Looks to be a great field already.

Have a question about eligibility to compete in the Finals at Scottsdale ...

Can anyone with an eligible car just show up at the Scottsdale show this November, pay the show entry and compete for the remaining spots, or do they have to already have entered and run one of the autox qualifiers held earlier this year to be able to even try for one of those spots? I heard through our grapevine that the latter would be true for this year but didn't see any mention of this in the Official Rules.

That's why I asked as I'd heard from Suzy Bauter that this *might* be enforced. Just want a clarification for folks and no surprises ...

Last year anybody could show up and compete for a spot in the finals if I remember right. My friend tried, but so many people entered that he only got to make 2 or 3 runs all day while the people already guaranteed for the finals got considerably more runs.

Make sure you read the rules carefully. Last year there was a Lotus with a Ford engine that was going faster than all of the big names, and when he showed up on Sunday to race they told him his car was disqualified for some odd reason. I never heard why they said he couldn't compete. I think the sponsors were angry a car that didn't have their products on it was going to win.

Mary, You do NOT have to run any event during the season to try for the final few race in spots. We are leaving this open for people that may of just finished a car for SEMA and want to have fun with it after.

Also the Lotus was a full racecar with no registration for the street. The cars for our event need to be street legal and insured.

Thanks, Ed. Still tuning on the Morrison IRS and won't be ready for the tight quarters at Pleasanton this weekend ...

Will definitely be at the Grand Finale in Scottsdale and thanks again for all you do.

I take it antique plate or classic plate cars would be disqualified? or no since they are insured for street?

That shouldn't matter as long as it is registered and insured.
