      502 block

In looking for a 502 block is there a significant difference in a GM and a Dart block? Thanks

      502 block

Yes, there is a huge difference in my opinion. From what I have learned recently is there are limits to the GM productions blocks. The Dart blocks offer more options for C.I. And added strength. You could easily build an 800+ Hp pump gas motor with a Dart big M ..
What's is your end game for the motor package?

Thanks Sean. Thinking about building it to a 540. No race car just a high HP hot rod.

      502 block

Dart block is the way to go.. Unless you boost it.
There are a couple of places you can get a complete Dart big M block & rotating assembly already assembled for around the same price as a GM block with forged internals.

Fwiw I've been using GM block for my 540 in my boat for 10 years with a 15% overdriven 8-71, no problems at all. This thing sees long sustained 6,500 rpm blasts.

If your starting from scratch, go with a the Dart block as it is a Gen 4 design with more parts available at good prices. If you had a Gen 6 502 block, then it would make sense to go with Gen 6 components. The cheapest route will be to buy a 540 crate. Nyes has them for $9.7k.
