I love the 69 Mach 1 body, one of my favorites! As far as direction goes what part of motosports appeals to you? Is it car events where you pull in and enjoy the company of others where you can talk freely about the hobby some weekend evening? Or is it a particular form of racing that you are interested in? Since your first move was towards suspension it looks like you are contemplating some form of handling motorsport!(?) Feel free to think out loud as others do the same and perhaps you can settle in on a direction so you are not wasting time and money.

At any rate good luck and welcome!

      P.S. Post pictures immediately

are you a member of any mustang boards? you might get a better answer over there. Im building a LS1 powered 67 mustang at the moment and joined a mustang forum for "mustang" related tech questions.

I would use a leaf spring rear with a panhard or watts link. Make sure to incorporate the shelby/arning drop when installing the front suspension. I think 1 of their kits accounts for the drop and the other doesn't.

      pics?

If this is your first build, I would read much more before making future purchases.

Yes, this is my first build. I have it at a guys house that knows what he's doing. I want to have a great ride with out getting into the two crazy expensive parts. That's why I did bolt on coil overs. Ive been thinking of a walts link or a g-link setup but I want to run my pipes out the back.

I will post pics as soon as I can figure out how.

Hey there 390. This is Mike Maier . I very rarely cruz the forums but the shop told me I had to stay home. I guess the shivers, a temperature , sneezing and coughing isn't fun to pass on. So here I am. There are a ton of great shops now days to pick up your parts from. The flood of competition among shops like ours is ultimately great for the consumer. However over the years I have seen little groups form kind of like lunch time in high school. You know the ones that eat by the band room or the group in the soccer field. Well that seems to have followed us into our hobbies. These projects are a fun thing for us to do in our extra time mostly. With all these random thoughts I encourage you to call around and see who you seem to work the best with. Who you think will support you if something doesn't go right. After all, this car needs to make you feel good when you drive it. When it comes down to making you feel good this is your thing and nobody else's concept. Sooo... Call around and see what product and tech group fits you best. Good luck and have fun.

Hey thanks Mike, do you guys have a leaf spring kit? What's the average wheels size I can fit with a leaf spring. I'm just looking for a nice ride that's low. I'm not going to be racing or anything like that.

Hey there 390. We do have springs. I fact we have been designing our own since the mid seventies. We have several different kinds to taylor to your driving. The springs that we design are made in the states and they do lower the car about 1.25" from stock. There are a lot of good things to tell you about them but I do not want to be one of those shops that shoves it down your throat. Give us a shout if you have some free time and we will try our best to steer you right.
Tires.. You have got a pretty good deal going on with that car. They can fit a fare amount of rubber under those quarters. FYI please do not only take my word. Double check me for your own info. I know people run some pretty big tires under these cars but they never mention rubbing or scraping until you see the cut up sidewalls. I personally like the 17's and 18's due to the tire options and handling characteristics. With a stock 69/70 width housing 5.75 seems to be the most back space you can get away with safely. Over all width depends on wheel well lips rolled or not rolled but a 9.5 ish should be safe. Please double check me on that. Measure twice buy once.
      Have fun, Mike Maier
