You can get ls1/t56 drop outs on ebay the price usually depends on the seller and mileage it you want one cheap the 5.3 vortecs are some of the best bangs for the buck usually only 500 to 800 dollars for everything you need on ebay or Craigslist

Having been there and done that. I highly recommend buying a new engine (LS3) from Jegs/Summit/GM or a board member and buy the "less risky" parts on Ebay etc.

Buying a used engine from Ebay or a junk yard is a crap shoot. All too often I read about someone who bought a leaker, a bad bearing, rod knock etc.

They have not made LS1s in 10 years, so high mileage is the rule there.
LS2s and 3s are pretty rare and fetch a premium.
What's your budget? I've used iron block 5.3 and 6.0 engines. Similar hp at a fraction the price of the aluminum block motors.

As Gary stated, set your budget before your start looking. Iron block motors will put you in an LS at a fraction of the cost.

Buying new will be super expensive, and once you've started it it's used. Would be cheaper to buy an entire, running vehicle you can get other parts from as well.
Would not buy from a junkyard, especially not Frankie's Used Auto.

Do not buy anything from Frankie's Used Auto Parts. Ever.

Set a budget and power goal. I bought an l92 block and have mahle pistons and a callies rotating assembly. After machine work, I will have a 418 for about the price of a crate ls376. A lot more time and effort though.
