Found the limit on my 5.3 the hard way.

Doing some test and tunes at the local dragstip last night. The 5.3 in my silverado let go and took the holley hi ram intake with it rip. Had dynoed 837 on a mustang dyno loaded to 4500 pounds on 16 psi, with the pt4788. Lastnight i saw a couple of boost pikes well over 22.5 psi tunning the boost controler, last run was 18 psi and boom. Best time was 10.50 @ 136 mph @16 psi with a soft launch. Will post more carnage pics when i take it apart.

Lol at first i thought it was on fire, because i saw smoke coming from my cowl hood. Luck me it wasnt and most of the damage was to the cowl part of the firewall. But the boom was loud.

Heck look up durafix.com those welding rods are awesome with little practice you can fix broken aluminum.
As for 5.3, JY long blocks are still there, even 6.0. Try car-part.com then swap in some good rods and pistons to stock type block, just spray it out with brake clean, ball hone it good, car wash clean up, check ebay for hbeam rods and ofetmarket forged pistons.
Seen several "fixes " like this and they run pretty good.
Oh and I dislike LSx but since its stock for truck, rock on.
