2005 Mustang

Well, we got a pair of 2005 GT's today. They run pretty good, I had one on the rack for PDI and was somewhat unimpressed with the underpinnings. Contrary to the rumors I had heard, no IRS yet. It does run a true 3-link albeit with a set of the shortest links I have ever seen. The LCA are 18" center-to-center and the 3rd link is 8"

. I figured they would have provided room for some longer links, at least the PHB is 41". I also did not like the looks of the frame mount for the 3rd link, or maybe I just over engineer the hell out everything. The OE Ford mount is a simple stamped steel mount held in place by (3) 12mm bolts threaded into the rear subframe sheetmetal

Are you sure there wasn't a nut welded onto something where you can't see? Sounds kinda hackish?

Oh, I'm sure are floating nuts inside the cabin, point was more that there wasn't any frame or heavy steel reinforcing to the pan area. Seems like the under the tremendous acceleration/braking forces that car is likely to be subjected to (was today :3gears: anyways) it could rip off the floor.

Sounds iffy to me. Perhaps theres something tucked up in there that you were not able to spot?

I'm not doubting you, I never thought Ford would be so cheap on something like that.

Sounds like a good aftermarket candidate! My brother is buying a GT this Spring. He only keeps cars a few years and over maintains them so it may be mine after that!

I work right around the corner from the Saleen factory, and drove by there last week. They had about fifteen of them waiting to be converted. Two of them were on a truck, so I spyed the chassis as well. I thought the exact same thing, the control arms are really, really short, especially the upper. I couldn't see the brackets.

One thing I will say is that they sound super nice, and I actually like the styling of them. Given the lack of competition in the current "muscle car" arena, these things are going to sell like mad. The aftermarket is going to have a huge opportunity, no one is going to leave them alone.

Dennis, did it look like you could modify the links, etc? I couldn't see enough, but it wasn't terribly obvious that you could without cutting. (And by the way, I still owe you some info, been a bit busy. Hope it isn't holding you up?)

You could build a new mount for the 3rd link, there is room for some more length-maybe 6". The lower links would take a bit of hacking to get something longer in there, you would have to cut out the factory frame mount and channel the floor to create enough room for the links to pivot.

That looks like he was "hot dogging" and lost it into a pole. That yellow paint is on all the nice panel munching parking lot posts, lamp bases etc! Too bad. I hope they were allright!

The wrecked car was done by a transport driver - car slipped off the "plank" in the rain. Probably a Chevy guy, who couldn't handle the power!

Here's some more 05 shots and details:

Ford Racing program is offering a "body in white" to certified racers. Not legal for street use - can't be titled. Cost is $3500!

They are also working on a "turn-key" racer (not street legal as well) - no pricing announced, probably close to $50k.

Some VERY interesting tuner cars coming out, although (IMO) the tuners are having a hard time "improving" the body...

Body in whites used to be 1500 but they bumped the price because you could buy a wrecked 6cyl and with a little swapping of VIN and buying all new ford parts you could have a running GT for around 10k or a replica Mach 1 for 20. They raised the price to hopefully run away those kind. There are already a few people i've heard of that have the body in white 05's and have had them for a while and are working on making them their turbo drag cars. I wouldn't mind getting a body in white and making a track car, even if you cant title it, it'd be pretty fun to drive around a track

Thanks for the pics of the Saleen and various styles i hadn't seen a few of them.

I just saw one on the freeway this morning. I like it and I am a chevy guy. Now to figure out how to buy one without spending any camaro money.
