Default Does Corvette LSX accessory drive fit Chevelle?

Has anyone here had firsthand experience using the Corvette accessory drive on a 1970-ish Chevelle (or other A-body), and also used A/C? I've been looking through others' photos and details, and have seen people using the Corvette accessories, but none with A/C (at least that I could confirm). Ultimately, I am trying to figure out if I would have to notch the frame for running A/C with the Corvette setup.

For what it's worth, the pertinent details for my ride include:
- 1970 Chevelle
- LQ9
- A/C (Classic Auto Air setup)

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I cannot confirm, but I HIGHLY doubt it would be an issue, since both alt and A/C mount high, opposing each other.

Check over at ls1tech. I think they do but use a aftermarket bracket for the a/c

The Corvette A/C compressor mounts down low on the passenger side from the factory. This requires that you notch the front crossmember in most cases, not easy to service that way.

The accessory drive picture you posted is likely equipped with the KWiK Performance mounting bracket:

I bought one of the KWiK brackets to mount a Sanden compressor on the new LS3 that's going in my '64 Tempest, I'm using a Classic Auto Air setup.

I have done a LS2 (402) in a 69 camaro and the vette setup works great, same for the chevelles. I had to build my own bracket for the A/C almost like the one in the photo. I have also done 4 chevelles and am getting ready to do my 70 chevelle with a LS 427. I will use the vette setup as well. As far as the A/C compressors go I think it is the easiest to mount it up high, with an aftermarket compressor. I have also done them down low with a stock style compressor and you do have to notch the frame a little bit but the lines are the biggest pain to adapt. The aftermarket compressor down low is even worse to adapt. I know the chevy SSR has a really small compressor that might be easier to squeese down low, something to check into if you can find one cheap for mock-up.

I stand corrected!

Thanks to all for the replies...I think this thread pretty sums up the confusion about what actually fits (all well-intended recommendations, of course). I was originally looking at the GMPP Corvette accessory drive kit, and didn't want to then have to add the Kwik A/C bracket as well. I think it will probably be easiest to simply stick with the Kwik setup exclusively for A/C, P/S, and alternator.

Here is a link to a video with the GMPP drive system. I can't say if it fits the chevelle but this gives a look at the completed system.

I should have had the video pause longer, also my belt routing was off.

Good luck!

It would fit if you use the new BRP Hotrods mounts but they place the engine quite high and forward relative to most mounts. You are probably better off with the Kwik bracket.

I run the brp mounts in a 66 with an ls2 with gto acc. drive and a sanden compresser down low on passenger side I bought the vintage air bracket to use with the gm bracket I had to modify the bracket slightly and massage the frame a little its all a pretty tight fit. If you were going to run a gm compressor it should work fine becouse it is not as long as the sanden compressor. I am running the kwik performance for my alternator very nice stuff for the money. If I did it again I would probably spend the $300.00 for the kwik bracket and mount up high to save some work.

Andrew ran one on his '70 GTO with Edelbrock mounts.

I may be wrong in this case, but I have seen no photographic indication that he (Andrew) is running A/C, so I was assuming he is not. If that were the case, I wholeheartedly agree this is a slam-dunk for using the GMPP setup.

I am not running AC. In order to use the Corvette or the F-body AC location the frame needs to be notched.

As Bart already mentioned this the Kwik bracket is a good solution.

You can also buy the Corvette Accessory drive without the AC. Pace Performance sells it. Here is the link http://paceperformance.com/index.asp...&ProdID=248708
