Default Project: ECOVETTE---Turbocharged Ecotec Chevette...

WHY??

I'm sure every single person viewing this is asking themselves this question.....

Why not?....
It looks very non-threatening, blends in well, is somewhat lightweight, and almost 30 years old!

PROJECT: ECOVETTE.......

After the wheels were sand blasted and painted and whole car was buffed and waxed.

I bought this car a few weeks ago and actually went to pick it up a week ago(last Thursday), and after a LOT of sleepless nights I got it down to the bare bones. The stock 60-70 HP just would not do.

Whats worse is how many of my friends asked if I was going to rebuild the engine and use it!!!...... WTF!!.....
Anyway I decided that the Turbocharged 2.0L Ecotec Engine/Trans/Wiring from a NEW 5-10mile 2008 Pontaic Solstice GXP would better suit my needs.

I removed all the interior, and discovered some small rust holes in the drivers side floor board and passenger side where the Cat was mounted.

The firewall has to come out anyway so the floor was removed completely to make way for the new chassis. I ordered one of the Jegster Complete Chassis/12pt. Cage Kits to stiffen things up a bit...after all it is a Chevette. After cutting out the rear inner wheelwells it it very apparent why the rear needs to be narrowed and tubbed. I recieved the tub kit earlier this week and am waiting for the Jegs Chassis/Cage kit to arrive....hopefully by the end of next week. I will be picking up the GXP Engine early next week.

I'll update as things come together......

I hated the way the bumpers stick out, so I started with the rear and took 2.5" out of each side. So far I like it, but needs to be finished. I will be doing a little roll pan under the bumper. Don't know where I am going to put the exhaust so I won't be cutting any holes in it yet. Some suttle body mods are in the works, nothing very noticable

Very cool. I'm a big fan of turbo 4's. Especially rear wheel drive, they almost don't exist, at least not in the us.

The engine is a Turbocharged 2.0L rated at 260 Horsepower & 260 ft-lbs. of torque. It has a 5 speed automatic. I wanted a manual but with such little foot-room and the very limited availablity of this engine, I decided the auto would be fine. From what I've read, it is the 2nd generation Ecotec and the first engine by a US automaker to use Direct Injection. In the Solstice it get 21 MPG city and 27 MPG highway. I don't think a reliable 300 HP is out of the question.

The interior will be black. I bought the black leather GXP seats for it as well. No more ugly ass red and faded pink!
The suspension and brakes are still to be decided and will be a bit tricky with such a short width to work with. Any ideas on suspension would be great. The entire front end of the car will be removed along with the firewall. The stock suspension is a joke.

Anyone have a narrowed rear end to sell cheap?

The car will also be a 2 seater when completed.
A friend of mine has a frame jig and said I can weld up the chassis on it! Now, if only the delivery truck would get here to drop off the chassis and cage components.....
