Default 1980 Malibu, Wheel & Tire Help

I just bought a 1980 Malibu last month. The engine is under construction right now and I'm trying to get the stance just right. Slammed and very G-machine looking. I ordered some 3in drop springs from opgi. And some high performance shocks and sway bars. So my question is what wheel and tire combo can I go with that should fit? I want to go with 17in wheels, maybe a 235/40/17 in the front and a 265/40/17 in the back, I dont know if this would fit? I am very open to suggestions. Please help and if you have some pictures of some options. I would love it. Thankyou.

Hi, first off depending on how you want the car to sit, if you want the front end low with the drop springs then you chould run a 7" on the front because an 8 will bottom out in the wheelwell before a 7 will. Most guys run an 8" on the rear with a 4.5 backspace and a 7" on the front with a 4. This is only a suggestion your best of to measure. I know it is possible to run a 9" on the rear and an 8" on the front but car won't sit as low. Try Malibu Racing.com lots of info on there and pics in the wheel and tire section, hope this helps a bit.....JIm

I have 17X9.5 on the rear with 275/40/17, & 17x8 on the front with 245/45/17. Fronts rubbed a little, but that was with worn out shocks & springs. Changing all of that, but don't know how it will set yet.

I have a similar setup like Scot, but in 18's. I had OPG 3" on my car and they settled right on my bump stops and they were to soft for my liking. So I cut my old hotckis springs to the height i wanted

Im going 18/20s on my malibu eventually, may be a year. I think the other G-bodys have a lil more room, due to our lower wheel lip...update us on what you go with.. most on maliburacing run rally wheels still so not alot of help there, I know the 2 that would be helpful are on here, malibu9in and lt4malibu I think are the names... there may be a few others, but they are regulars...
