Jesus, that thing must dead hook and be setup for the 1320. Sounds very mild and well put together!

Just for some reference here are the AFR 235's on a 427 reving to 7000rpm making 759 hp. Pity we cant see what they make at 3000rpm!

Thanks for all your input.

The 235's are just too big for my street application. They exceed the 227's by quite a margin in terms of flow but the 220's comp's exceed the 227 street head.

Spoke to an AFR Tech today. I explained that I had 195 comps and they gave loads of bottom end power on my boosted 355.

I asked him if the motor would still have good street manners with the new 220's on a 406 with the same Procharger head unit.

He stated that the 195 comps have 165lbs springs and that my new combo with a solid roller might be better with 225lbs springs on the 220's or 210's. If my application was not boosted he would recommend the 210's but as it is then the 220's would fit the bill.

I may try both the 195's and 220's and sell which ever doesn't give the required throttle response! I also have an Air gap rpm and a Supervictor to play with, but that's another story.

I think you will love the 220's.

Merry Christmas!

Default 427 build with 227 eliminator heads

hello hope you can help me im also using 180 offset lifters and t and d machine is telling me to use the 2301 rockers wich is .375 offset but when i measure the .250 offset looks like it would work alot better. .300 would be perfect. witch offset did you use or what number from t and d machine. i really appreciate it. kevin

After talking with Tony Mamo at AFR, he assured me that my application would really benefit from the bigger heads. I'm not too worried about low-end power with 434ci!

I chose the largest chambers when I was planning a pump gas/meth injection setup. Since I started the build, they opened an E85 pump only 4 miles from my house, so I decided to go for an E85 build that would still support a lower boost gas tune for long highway trips. I'll probably mill these heads down to get the chambers closer to 75cc for a static CR of ~9.2:1:

The vane in the intake port is the biggest visible change over the 227's:

T&D shaft rockers, 1.7Intake, 1.8Exhaust will yield an actual 239/246@.050, net lifts .630"I, .674"E on a Comp Cams 242/248 solid roller cam:

To keep good pushrod alignment, I'm using .180" offset intake mechanical roller lifters:

World Motown Single Plane, ported by Dr. J, before conversion for EFI and embedded nitrous spraybar:

Plans are ~15# of boost with a target of 800rwhp.

More to come.

Internet one-up manship is expensive. I nearly went for a set of All Pro RR 245's but changed my mind when looking at my bank account.
I ended up much like DeltaT and Hotrod guy and got a set of AFR 235 80cc chambers. I too used 0.180 offset mechanical lifters. I was going to get the Isky red Zones but ended up with Comp Cams Endure X. On top I plumbed for Jesel Sportsman shaft rockers 1.6/1.6 and am just waiting for my pushrods to arrive.

The ports, springs and valves are massive compared to the AFR 195comps!!!!

You just can't beat that feeling you get when Mr Fedex knocks and you can unwrap shiny metal objects!!!!

Now excuse me while I move my heads into the bed and get the old Lady to sleep on the couch!!!!!

Yeah, too bad you didn't know about the new AFR239R's. I traded my pitiful pair of 235's for a new set. They flow about 19% better on the intake and 22% better on the exhaust, and are the same price.

j/k I know you will love your new 235's. Hopefully not in the way your vision above suggests :(

Not yet, but I just upgraded to the AFR8001 springs and am going to get some heftier Manton pushrods. I know there was no clearance problems with Comp's 5/16" ones. I have not fired the motor yet. Lots of parts coming, unfortunately about 2 weeks before my wedding. Fiance would be like

Thanks to you all in helping me with my choice of head...

AFR 235's were the best bang for the buck to consume the air from these...

Damn, the 235's might end up being too small afterall! The air filters alone are going to be like small trashcans...

We did a couple sets of All-Pro's on some 360 sprint car engines, very nice stuff! Your setup looks like you'll be in for some fun, bring an extra shorts on the first test drive.
