Default LS7 motor needs ECU - What to get?

I am pretty sold on having Speartech set me up with any needed harness work. When I talked to him 8-10 months ago, I think he said it'd be cheaper for me to find an ECU/harness and have him modify it than to have him create one.

That being said,...I've got no ECU right now. I think I've read on another forum that the LS2 and LS7 ECU's are very similar.
I do have a shop located nearby in Columbus (IPS Motorsports) that could set me up with a map to get running, then I can get the car to them for final tuning on a dyno. (they use HP Tuners)

Is there anything I need to be aware of in looking for an ECU? Are the LS2/LS7 ECU's my only choice? If so I was assuming I'd shop for one on Ebay/LS1Tech/Corvetteforum.

Anything wrong with the GMPP set up? It includes E67 GM controller, complete with the harness, drive by wire pedal, MAF sensor, oxygen sensors, and small parts for only $950,- @ SDPC http://www.sdparts.com/product/19166...arnessLS7.aspx

Good reminder,....I remember reading about that but I haven't heard any feedback on it at all. Maybe it's wishful thinking but man it would be great to come in cheaper.

I can tell you from personal experience that it's a great and very complete set and I had no (real) problem getting it to work with EFI-live and to load a custom map.

I am using the GMPP E67 ECU and LS7 tune with my L92 LS7 cammed engine. The drivability is sweet. Why would you not get the same thing if you have a LS7?

Seriously though, I appreciate the feedback. I am seriously considering that new GM LS7 ECU.
I had heard an LS2 ECu works just as well and if it is cheaper, it seemed as if I should give it due consideration.

E67 is the follow up for the E38 and the fastest available controller from GM and it only functions with DBW throttle. It's included in the LS7 GMPP kit.

Had a very brief chat with Mike Norris today (looking for a set of coils or ECU)

I'm still trying to assemble the right tidbits of knowledge but, I think I heard Mike say that the GMPP parts require the MAF.

I may be confused, but, I thought that guys were doing away with the MAF on some builds. Just using Speed Density tunes.
And, of course, there's some speculation about whether MAF or SD tunes are better for a large cammed motor. (lots of cam overlap)

With my luck, I'll buy yet more parts that I don't need or can't use.

You can run the GMPP set up with a Speed Density tune. But you could start with the MAF connected and a regular tune since it's already included in the GMPP kit. Which is still a great set up for a very friendly price even when you decide to run SD.
