427 sbc
I bought a short block 427 with forged eagle crank, forged Mahle -20cc inverted dome pistons, eagle H-beam rods and 4.125'' Bore x 4.000'' Stroke for my 65 MALIBU VERT from bill mitchell. I am curious as to who else is running this engine. What heads, cam, intake and carb combo are you using on it, what are the cam specs and what is the hp and torque your getting from it.

I have the same engine from mitchell, bought the whole thing pan to carb. They deliver it with 220cc aluminum motown heads and a world single plane. The cam is a hydraulic flat tappet .550 intake and .560 exhaust lift with 1.6 ratio rockers. The duration at .050" .244(I) and .252(E) and the lobe seperation angle is 112. This is a very mild grind for these big inch small blocks, the street manners are fantastic , as advertised it came with papers that claim 520hp@6100rpm and 495ftlbs@4600rpm measured at the flywheel.
I immediatly took the intake manifold off the engine and sent it to wilsons and had them port the top of the plenum and weld in injector bungs. I run a 1300cfm 4150 fast throttle body and FAST XFI ecu with there distributor as well. With 42lb injectors the engine did 460 hp and 485 ftlbs at the rear wheels through a tko-600.
In my opinion if your budget permits, I would go with AFR 210s or 220s an edelbrock super vic or world intake, and a nice hyd roller cam. It really depends on how much power your looking for and how your going to use the car. Its easy to make power when you have the cubes on your side. How do you intend to use the car, track, street, both, autocross?

Well, similar setup anyway, mine has more compression and a lot of cam... specs in my pt garage. FYI, 1pt compression (10:1 to 11:1) and changing from a victor jr to the wilson super victor was 60hp on the dyno. -Dan

Dan- nice engine, just checked out the vid of your pulls, care to divulge some cam specs? With your static compression at 11 Im curious what the LSA is in the cam. Does it have nice street manners? Awesome power!

Sorry for my slow reply, been a bit crazy at work lately. I don't mind sharing cam info, I just can't recall off the top of my head, I think it's in the 262/268 @.050 duration and intake lift at .700 or just shy of it. 114lsa? It actually will idle all day long at 1000rpm, I keep it at 1200 for better manners and to help keep it running under heavy braking. I've driven it on several 300 mile trips like from CT to Carlisle PA or Maple Grove PA, Epping NH, etc-- it runs good, and it lets me pick on the trailer queens a lot. In town it's fine, but I wouldn't want to try it with an automatic as it would need a lot of stall speed. If I lived in a big city it might get to be a bit much but I think any big cam and stick shift combo would after driving in traffic.
