Default What happened to Sunday Angeles Crest drives?

I haven't seen one posted on here in ages... what's going on guys?

I've got a hankering for getting up stupid early on a Sunday, driving for an hour, just to drive another 40 minutes up a hill for some Breakfast in a place that doesn't have French Toast on the menu.

lol

Mr. Kelcy? What gives Sir?

I heard on the news this morning that Angeles Crest Hwy is still closed and will be for the next few weeks due to the fire. Yes even though the fire is long out...

If memory serves all of the safety barriers needed to be repaired since their wooden columns were all burned. Mike has the latest, but the signs on the freeway state it's closed.

We need to figure out an alternate route.

The last I heard, the Angeles Crest Highway was expected to be reopened soon - early November. http://www.lacanadaonline.com/articl...way-101509.txt .

If you read the article, it's apparently just not pretty (literally and figuratively) from La Canada to Newcomb's.

Hmmm I didn't know ACH was still closed... damn. That puts a damper on the fun.

There's always breakfast out at Pine Mountain Club... restaurant called "The Screaming Squirrel"
16200 Mill Potrero Hwy, Frazier Park, CA‎

Food is decent... scenery is nice, drive is spectacular. A bit farther than our usual route though... plus you can take Cerro Noroeste Rd all the way to Hwy 33. If you haven't been on that stretch of road before, you're missing out. I've ridden it a few times on my old bike... yums the word.

Maybe Mike can reconnoiter the road and tell us if the restaurant is still there. We may need to take the the highway all the way over. Oh darn...

Newcomb's didn't burn up, but they've lost months worth of business. I'm going to be in NC from 11/21-12/1 or so, so I'll be missing any post Thanksgiving cruise. I'd call before assuming Nuke's is open, but I'm guessing they'll be there.

I went up on Tuesday. It's pretty sad. The good news is that Newcomb's was totally unaffected - they were just about the eastern edge of the fire. The bad news is that there were some beautiful areas that were destroyed: Switzers, a picnic area that was just past the Angeles Forest Highway as you went up, on the right:

and a portion of Charlton Flats, which was home to some wonderful large old trees:
